If you are watching this Purdue vs. Arizona game, I want you to watch the Purdue offense. Look how they play inside out by getting the ball to Cluff and having MULTIPLE shooters spaced wide. They also run a lot of zoom actions to get the guards full speed to attack the hoop or get some space for a shot. These are super efficient because if the defender goes over the screen, the guard drives; if they go under, the guard shoots. They run staggered screens with usually two screens to get open Fletcher Loyer and it WORKS. I am tired of running mainly pistol sets over and over and over again. All of this to say that Nate Schmidt has to go and some new offense has to be installed because it simply isn't good enough to make it past the S16. Curious on anybody's thoughts on this.

The Iowa State defense made Purdue look terrible

I know I started the mega Schmidt thread last season. I’m okay with him staying on staff. He has good recruiting connections overseas and is one of the main reasons we have Toure and Pleta. But I wouldn’t mind someone else taking the lead on offensive sets and out of bounds sets.

In big games we really struggled to get Milan open or even decent looks. I know Milan needs to work on being able to find his own shot with the ball in his hands, but his expertise is being a screen and catch shooter. And of course sometimes that fade away. I just feel we could do SO much better spacing the floor and moving the mall around.

Agree. Milan is also lazy on offense. I watched Pryce Sandfort in Nebbys Sweet 16 game and his movement without the ball was incredible. His cuts from inside the paint out to the 3 point line were a thing of beauty. Milan does WAY too much standing around the three point line.

I’ve been wanting to post this exact thing since that last Iowa vs Nebraska game.

You watch Sandfort vs Milan off the ball and it’s night and day difference. When the opponents main goal is to stop you, you have to work that much harder to get open…. you don’t just give up. Iowa wanted to take Sandfort out of the game, and he still went for 25.

The difference is that Purdue has Braden smith, who was s an elite facilitator and a pretty good shooter. Same thing that Iowa did with Stirtz. When you have a guy that can make the pocket pass or find guys anywhere on the court plus is a big time threat to shoot, you can do that. I love Lipsey, but that’s not his game. He’s a downhill player, not a good enough shooter or passer to base your whole offense on those kinds of sets like Purdue and Iowa do.

Haha, give up?

Was Sandfort face guarded by Tennessee?? He's also faster than Milan imo. Should Milan just 'get faster'?

What the hell are people watching?

It should be noted that Iowa ain't Tennessee.
