*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

If EIU makes the Final 4 I might go irretrievably mental. That is literally more than I could handle as a sports fan.
Really sucks to have a rival be good at essentially every major sport.....luckily their women's team was an early out but their men's team possibly making a Final Four would just be so bad for us.

The Hawks this year are emblematic of what makes March Madness, madness. They have a team that was remarkably unremarkable and caught lightning in a bottle somehow. That's what makes the tournament special and makes the hearts of college basketball fans fill with hope every March.

We have a staff that will get us there all the time, and probably with teams that are capable of making a real run. Eventually there will be a special run (or three). That's all you can ask as a fan.

When?I still have scars from 2000 to prove it

One thing that’s been a repeating issue for us has been the lack of length and athleticism we’ve had.

It showed up tonight, against IL, as well as other teams in the B12.

Seems like we get a lot of dogs who can ball, but they’re always smaller / less athletic guys.
You can build a team in different ways. SEC teams tend to go go heavy on the lengthy, athletic guys.

We smoked two of those teams (UK and Miss St) without our best player in one of them this season. It's no guarantee of success. Just look at Baylor as an example.

Toure and Batemon have great length and I believe will become dominant players going forward.

How about a 6'10" guy who constantly gets blocked, rim stuffed, and couldn't get rebounds tonight? Blake had 3 rebounds tonight.....3!!!!!!!
I'm glad you brought up getting blocked. I don't think I have ever seen a big get blocked as much as Buchanan. His dunks are fun to watch, but he needs to get stronger and learn how to rebound.

I have those scars too, but hopefully someday before I leave the planet. I became a fan a few years before our first tournament appearance in decades, so I'm thankful for everything we've been given, even with all the bad luck. This is one of the best programs in the country, with one of the best coaching staffs leading it.

ISU already clinched the Cy-Hawk series, making it 4 of the last 5.

ISU won head-to-head in every major sport.

However good you think Iowa is ISU is currently better.

A lot of posters on here need to gain some perspective and grace. The idea that these players didn’t want to win this game and that JJ let the team down because he ‘didn’t try’ is straight up pathetic. Stop sh*t posting about individual players and their lack of effort.

I’m old enough to remember years where ISU was often a bubble team or missed the tourney altogether. ISU doesn’t have the conference $$ or NIL $$ of the BIG or SEC and we’re holding our own and being competitive.

Stop ******** about the success of others and instead celebrate what we’ve accomplished. Sports is inherently humbling, in fact it’s brutal, you’re always going to get knocked down and challenged, ultimately success isn’t about wining the ultimate prize, it’s that you never stopped trying to achieve it and the lessons you learned along the way.

J Jefferson would have made a huge difference in this game. Huge. Wish he would have taken the shot.

But very disappointing. Three years in a row that TJ and squad played below their seed. And Momcilovic was at the heart of all three NCAA losses with his poor performance. Illinois, Ole Miss and now Tennessee when he went ghost mode.\ three times.

Those posters predicting him earlier this year as a first round draft choice are idiots. No defense and cannot create his own shot. Hope he comes back and tears it up before playing in the Euro leagues.

I think that is how the Hawks feel. Since we indeed beat them in every major sport.
And while those moments were great, their team being in the Elite 8 with a less talented roster than ours is a hard pill to swallow.

The harsh reality for college basketball is that what you do in the NCAA tournament matters....and Sweet 16's are great....but we've hit this same wall repeatedly and we seem to not be able to break through it....I think TJ eventually will but I'm kind of at the point where I need to see it to believe it.

Now before anyone calls me out, no I am not advocating for a HC change....love TJ and what he's done for our program.
