**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

Do you all think we may be at a disadvantage and others as well since we're still in the tourney and the teams that aren't, are busy trying to get a leg up on those in the portal? Idk
Not really the staff is talking to who the want and think it’s a narrow list. Dishon Jackson committed 2 years ago before our Sweet 16 game for example the staff doesn’t rest.
Plus the good publicity TJ has to sell with the state of his program and a Trsnsfer AA in JJeff show be pretty attractive to the right targets.

Yeah... hopefully these guys return...

Guards- Toure, Batemon, Williams
Forwards- Momcilivic
Center- Buchanan, Pleta

That's not a horrible base to start from and build around. I think Milan will come back too... he probably would get drafted in the 2nd round somewhere, but likely won't hardly play because he's way too much of a defensive liability. He should stay and get what he can from NIL IMO.
That’s a top 10 base there and TJ would be able to fill in with freshmen or transfere

With McDermott retiring Coon from storm lake reopened his recruiting. Not sure how he'd fit but can see him being a decent player by jr sr years.

Jaidyn Coon is a freak athlete. Really hope he ends up a Clone. Iowa and Nebraska also offered originally. Id be surprised if he doesn't end up at one of those 3 schools.

Jaidyn Coon, Josiah Harrington and Donovan Davis would be incredible additions to our frontcourt the next couple of years.

No if we’re at a disadvantage it’s strictly financial

I wouldn't say a top 10 base. We will 100% miss Jefferson more than people think and miss Heise way, way more than people think. His ability to always be in the right spot defensively, rebound, both post players and guards really well is not something any other returner can fully cover today.

Being in the right spot defensively 99% of the time versus 90% of the time is a MASSIVE difference for our defense. Having Heise as a plug and play 99% of the time is huge.

Its also exactly what Robert Jones was so underrated. Go look at Kenpom defensive ratings in TJs 5 seasons.
2022: 88.5 - Both Jones (exceptional) and Conditt (great) were great at being in the right spot at the right time
2023: 91.0 - Still had Jones (exceptional) but Osunniyi was not as good at that positioning. Shot blocking skills helped a ton, but honestly, thats less important with TJ's defensive scheme.
2024: 87.5 - Still had Jones (exceptional) and Ward (great), plus Ward was a great shot blocker.
2025: 93.2 - Neither Jackson, nor Chatfield were good at being in the right place at the right time defensively.
2026: 91.3 - Buchanan is great, but not quite to Robert Jones level. Pleta is good, but not to the level of Conditt or Ward yet.

Ranking TJ C's on the ability to be in the right place at the right time consistantly, its pretty clear:
1. Robert Jones
2. Blake Buchanan
3. Hasan Ward
4. George Conditt (may have risen to higher level with another year under TJ
5. Dom Pleta
6. Osun Osunniyi
7. Brandtdon Chatfield
8. Dishon Jackson

Shot Blocker/Mistake Eraser (less important because TJ defenses don't make a lot of mistakes to erase)
1. Ward
2. Osunniyi
3. Buchanan
4. Conditt
5. Everyone else (neglible value)

Next year is exciting. Blake may move to the exceptional category and Pleta likely moves ahead of Conditt and Ward.

Until Pleta has a missed free throw and put back dunk.... he can't move ahead of Ward. He does have record though for most ground covered without a dribble with just outside the 3pt line. Your list looks pretty spot on though when you put it like that.

Agreed on Heise. Will be very difficult to replace that type of buy-in from a bench guy that can also produce if needed. A couple potential options early in the portal season here. Both seem like great replacements for that role that can guard positions 2-4 if needed, but offer a bit more scoring.

Isaac Celiscar - Yale
Ryan Prather - Robert Morris

Celiscar probably leans a bit more SF and Prather more SG, but both have good size. Bonus - they both shoot 80%+(!!) from the FT line.

Not even in the portal at the moment, but after watching UNI in arch madness Leon Bond immediately jumped out as a guy that could fit that role perfectly. Why not just go right back to the UNI well for a replacement??
Leon Bond III - UNI

First two guys will likely be expensive, and may not be looking for a bench role, but you never know. Seem like good fits on paper at least.

Yep, need a mid-major star who just wants to win at the highest level and isn't looking for a big payout

Correction: isn't looking for the BIGGEST payout.
Exactly. I'm not sure why there's this notion that Iowa State guys aren't getting really healthy checks.

I get that everything has levels but Iowa State isn't poor, regardless of what Jamie wants everyone to believe.
