I think we need another guy on the perimeter who can shoot and put the ball on the floor / get to the rim, before we need a skilled big.

Yes it would be great to get both but doubt we have the $$$ for that. Our $$$ will as usual recently be spent primarily retaining the current guys (which is a good thing for program like ISU).

I’m watching Santa Clara vs Kentucky and I believe that there are at least three and maybe four players that would be solid additions to the Cyclones roster for next season.

This doesn't make sense with Toure, Batemon, Williams, Wiggins and Gray all projected on the 2026-27 roster. It is obvious the top priority is a Stretch 4 if the goal is to keep Milan at the 3 and assuming that Pleta, DRK and Kiss are not projected as legit threats from the arc next season.

Agreed, we need a guy to play the 4 but Toure and Gray are the only true point guard/distributors. Even then, Toure hasn't really run the offense consistently and Gray will be a freshman coming off shoulder surgery.

We're not only losing Lipsey but Jefferson, who is essentially the second "point guard". Plus, that is a really young guard group. I think a more senior guard who can run point, i.e. Andrew Rhode type, could go a long ways next year.

Not sure Iowa State's offense needs a true PG. Look at Lipsey's last couple years- he averaged 3.0 & 5.0 APG. With the PnR offense, it's just important to have a PG who can make shots in the paint or make 3's off ball screens. I would add Mason Williams to the primary ball handler group a long with Toure & Gray. Williams was EWU's second leading assist guy.

As you mention, from an assist/distributor standpoint the bigger question, who replaces Jefferson's 5 APG?

Not sure if Kelderman is still on scholarship and what he has been promised go forward. Otherwise there are 7 scholarship players coming back & 4 HS/Prep recruits. So we have 1 or 2 scholarships available. I would prioritize:
  1. A Hogue/Clyburn/Ejim type wing who is a solid rebounder & scorer. Ideally, a guy who can be interchangeable with Milan as a 3/4 guy.
  2. A floor general PG. A player who can also score might be beyond ISU's budget. But with returnees, just need a guy who can run offense and limit TO's.

I would say Jefferson certainly played point forward, but I would call Toure and Lipsey PG's one and two not necessarily in that order.

I think an ISU strength is the fact that we had two PGs starting, and two other guys starting that also brought the ball up the court at times.

It seems most posts in this thread provide the offensive stats of the players being mentioned, but how about giving insights into their ability to play defense in a TJ system.

Do you all think we may be at a disadvantage and others as well since we're still in the tourney and the teams that aren't, are busy trying to get a leg up on those in the portal? Idk
