Why do I hate the Hawks so much?

1000%. End of thread.

That's too easy.

Let's give some credit for their multiple incidents of sex-discrimination, profiting off their virtue signaling ANF charade, and support of some truly objectionable humans in positions of authority (Brands Bros, psycho Fran, and nepo Kirk). I mean, its garden variety SEC stuff, but then they pretend to be Iowa Nice and it's gross.

And also, if I had $1 for every time some random person walked up to me unprovoked and made a disparaging ISU remark or got a little too into my personal space for a "GO HOX!"... I couldn't buy a round of beers for all of CF, but I could buy a round for some of CF. So yeah, mostly the fans.

Quite awhile ago I happened to be wearing an Okie St the day after The OHIO State wrestled Iowa. I'm checking out at Theisens and the clerk says "Well, I guess we beat the crap out of you yesterday". I replied "This is OKLAHOMA State". She say "Yeah, OSU". At that point I refused to partake in the stupidity.

Living in Cedar Rapids I've developed a good way to make Hawk fans shut up. Just start asking them specific questions about thier team (any team) like.
Who's is your heaveyweight htis year?
Who's your second string running back?
Who do you play next week?

90% of the time they will scurry back to their hole rather than admit they don't know **** about their team.
Happens a lot with checkout people. Insane. My usual comeback is "when did you graduate from Iowa?" because the answer is never a year.

I WANT to say "well maybe that's why you're a FKING CLERK YOU LITTLE SHTBIRD LOSER AND I WANT TO TALK TO YOUR MANAGER ABOUT WHY YOU ARE BEING RUDE TO CUSTOMERS"

Sorry, I think I just had a moment there.

WRT the detailed questions, I go the other way with "what country is that Vulgaris guy from?" or "where was McClellan before he came to Iowa?" And honestly its usually true, I just don't follow them at all. I couldn't name 4 guys who played FB for them last year.

I will never forget the lies and slander their AD and band tried to lay on us with the "sexual assault" claims. That crossed a line I will NEVER get over. Never.

I grew up and went to high school in Small Town, Minnesota and had a high school teacher who was in the Hawkeye Marching Band in the mid-80s. She says she was never treated so poorly as when the band traveled to Ames, being spat on, harassed, and assaulted. I never question her about it, but I'm not sure I believe the severity of it. Maybe the mid-80s were different?

Their fans and their beat writers which is like saying their fans and their fans.

I can't imagine the disgusting people in a venue where Iowa is playing Nebraska. It has to be pure hell.

I really tried to hate the Hoks in all sports but Stulkey has been my favorite player in the women’s game for a few years now.

Grew up in eastern Iowa in the 70- early 80s Clones weren’t on back then. Ronnie Lester and Vince Brookins were the guys I loved to watch.

I personally walked behind an opposing team's band as they walked into Kinnick back in the 90's. I was at the game with some buddies who were big Iowa fans. It was pretty bad what the Iowa fans were doing to that band. I've never seen ISU fans do anything close to what I witnessed that day.

Yeah...I went to Kinnick twice as a member of the ISUCF'V'MB. I don't remember anything awful, exactly, but it wasn't pleasant.

ISU could really use a player like her next season, she really had a great career.

I'm 65 years old and I'm just trying to figure out why I hate the Hawks so much. I'm even rooting for the Cornhuskers over them!
What are some of your reasons you hate the Hawks so much?
As I've grown older, I've come to realize I don't hate Iowa. I just don't care one bit how their athletic programs fare. To me, Iowa is a one week a year rival.

In regards to rooting for Nebraska in the sweet 16 matchup against Iowa, I'm not rooting for either team, but I am pro-Fred Hoiberg. If Hoiberg was coaching Northwest Timbuktu State in the sweet 16, I'd be rooting for NWTSU. So go big Fred in the sweet 16 against Iowa.

If Fred wasn't coaching Nebraska, then I'd be rooting for an asteroid to hit the arena.

Hawk fan on X trying to make them relevant by asking when was the last time ISU beat a one seed in the tournament. Another hawk fan told an ISU fan to answer the question after the ISU fan replied to the original poster that we beat #1 Purdue by 20 at Purdue and that Florida was the fourth #1 seed in the tournament.

Stupid fans base gets my vote!
The 1-seed they beat should definitely come with an asterisk.

We aren't typically seeded low enough to play a 1-seed on the second round, have to get to the regional final four that when you're ISU.

If the Iowa Hawkeyes have a million haters, I am one of them. If the Iowa Hawkeyes have 5 haters, I am one of them. If the Iowa Hawkeyes have one hater, I am that hater. If the Iowa Hawkeyes have zero haters, then I am no longer alive. If the entire world is for the Iowa Hawkeyes, then I am against the world. 'Til my last breath, I hate the Iowa Hawkeyes.
This is the energy/vibe we need.

I was SO glad when Pollard called their f**king bluff on this BS... and they had no answer. That was sweet!

Such a different environment back in the 80's in the Jim Criner football era when I was at ISU ... we were basically never on TV for any sports that I can remember, but it seemed like every Iowa game was on. All of the local news sports broadcasts were all about Iowa. This bred a whole generation of Hawkeye bandwagon jumpers that never went to school there. Every year, Iowa would come in and pound us mercilessly in football and the stands would just be full of annoying Hawkeye fans. It was real easy to grow to hate them.
Not only did it create a generation of Hok bandwagon jumpers, most haven’t been within 50 miles of Iowa City. But they’re “big Hok fans.”

I find I just care about them a whole lot less after I blocked instate rivals here and got rid of my other socials. I think I’ve only watched 3 of their games this year. Honestly I just don’t care enough about them to hate them anymore.

Jordan Bohanon and that fan base make it impossible to ever root for them.
