*** Official #7 IOWA STATE vs #2 Arizona Game(Day) Thread ***

To anyone questioning how good Arizona is and whether they are one favorites to win the natty, let me say this: “They beat us with their top scores combining for seven points, and ISU playing great.” Hope we don’t face them again.
Top scorers may not have scored much but they had two guys go off that don’t go off like that normally. So it kinda evens out.

That was the B12 Championship game-competitive, runs for both and came down to a buzzer beater.
Just can’t figure how the AZ center Krivdas had no fouls????

Ummm we didn't attack him. They sagged him in the lane.

The couple times we did attack him he had 2 clean blocks.

From CBS Sports recap ... I managed to mis-remember how the loss at UA last season was in OT, buzzer-beater was to tie it (when I first read it, I thought CBS was inaccurate). (Italics are mine)

Everything crescendoed to Bradley's buzzer-beater, the first by any Big 12 player in any game since 2022 (Kansas' Bobby Pettiford vs. Wisconsin) and also the first winning shot as time expired in this tournament since Monte Morris beat Texas at the horn in the 2015 quarterfinals from damn near the same spot in this very building.

I'm thrilled with the effort last night and I'm not at all mad about the loss.

But it is hard for me to appreciate that as an all-time game since we lost. I know it was and I know we played at an incredibly high level. But every time I think about it, I'm just so disappointed that it wasn't us that won that all-time game.

And I'm just not ready for the season to end. The next loss is the last game and that just freaking sucks.

Last night was a difficult pill to swallow because losing at the buzzer is brutal, but feeling a lot better about the game today. The frustrating part was when we missed 9 field goals in a row in the second half. The saving grace was we went toe to toe with one of the three best teams in the country on a neutral court (every tournament game is on a neutral court). That Aussie couldn’t miss and Momcilovic was just as hot as him down the stretch. The guys never gave up and showed they’re capable of beating Arizona. Seeing Toure score buckets was great and that could help us a ton if he can keep it up in the big dance. I was pretty down about these guys end of the season, but they seem to be hungry again and are giving it their all. Should be securely on the 2 line now. Lipsey and Toure need rest so it’s good they have an extra day and one less game to do that.

And our bench combining for three points. I think they are the best team in the country but would love another shot at them

Why just say ****?

They came back to beat AZ a few weeks later and still competed despite two injuries.

See Duke or Texas Tech if you want to see how much just one injury affects a team.
The same Duke that is still competing in the conference tournament tonight? Injuries do matter, but there's no denying that ISU team went on a mental tailspin after the Arizona game last year. They lost to Tang in Hilton. This has been talked about by guys like Blum and CW so I'm not just blowing smoke. And I do realize their opinions aren't always correct, but they're a hell of a lot closer to the program than you or I am.
