Bill Fennelly

Things could be so much worse.

Seriously, you are correct, but at some point you decide if want to try and take the next step. Maybe budget wise we just have that capacity and we live with what we have.

I think it speaks volumes that BF's entire staff has NOT moved on....EVER. No one has been targeted for other coaching positions nor do I get the impression they ever wanted to test the waters and spread their wings a bit.

I feel as though our assistants on this team bring virtually nothing to the table. It's either that or whatever they do bring to the table is shot down by BF but I'd wager on the former.

I've been beating that drum for a lot of years now.

You would be incorrect. Let’s start with Brenda Frese. Then we go to Katie Abrahamson. And Robin Pingeton.
JFC it's 2026! I can't tell if you're a Bill apologist or a historian.

Brenda 95-99
Katie 94-2000
Robin 200-2003

It's basically just run like an ol' local family business. Everyone is comfortable (maybe even complacent) with their job security and the main man keeps his friends and family employed handsomely.

If this was happening at Iowa we would rightfully mock them for it year after year. And heck, it kinda did happen with Brian Ferentz.

If Bill stays and retires after next year, this program is in for a major reset. Bill has built this roster so he can go out in a blaze of glory with almost the entire team being juniors. It is frustrating that these seasons have been disappointing knowing this team will be decimated after next year.

When you say blaze of glory, do you mean another 10-8 conference record?

The days of a coach leaving a loaded locker room for the next guy are over. The players are either loyal to Bill or not loyal to bill more than they are to ISU. Look at football when Campbell left.
Personally I would like to see them add one more big piece in the portal, and go all out for one more year, then reset. Problem is when expectations are the highest results are the lowest.

I think Molly Miller would be a great candidate for Jp to consider. Usually do see in conference moves so who knows. She’s from Mo so it would be an option for her if she wants to get closer to home. Prob difficult to leave AZ weather however..

You might of considered holding your thoughts on this one. So 23 years ago is the most recent one I believe u listed to leave and your dieing on that hill. The point of the post was on target.
Just making the point that there have been staff move on. It’s not an indictment of anything else. Quite honestly, most times retention and continuity is a very positive thing.

Read my point clarification. To use your terminology (and we know where you ALWAYS fall) JFC keep your facts straight…

The FACT is he has had people move on. And having staff continuity is usually a very good thing. I won’t rehash the success of this program with YOU as that’s like beating a dead horse with a shovel.

How about this…at UConn, they have an assistant coach that has been there longer than Bill has been at ISU. An assistant that’s been there 18 years and like Schaben came up through the program.

This. Why would you think these same players are going to have different results next year? Because they will be seniors?

The same problems will continue:

1) Really poor defense
2) Really poor coaching
3) A fan base that believes the schtick that Bill is some gosh golly great humble coach that built ISU women into a powerhouse.

My gut feeling is next season will be Bill's last before he retires. I say this because if he were to retire or be pushed out now most of this roster would likely transfer out. I wouldn't be shocked if we lose a few to the portal regardless, but do you really want to potentially see players like Audi and AJ finish their career at another school when they are from Iowa and chose to play in state?

It's disappointing to see this team collapse 2 years in a row now with the talent they have. I get the frustration by fans and it frustrates me too. But be careful what you wish for because I would much rather see this current junior class stay at ISU and finish their careers as a Cyclone even if that means the possibility of another underperforming season than to see a complete reset of the program and those players playing in a different uniform. The way this roster is currently constructed the 27-28 season is setup to be a complete rebuild regardless of who is the coach is with 8 juniors on this current roster.

Bill will probably pull the Bruce Pearl trick for Billy and retire in August to ensure Billy is hired as head coach.

Next year will be Bills last year. There will be no coaching changes because Bill has earned that respect.

That being said, his last 4 years will really taint his legacy. Arguably his most talented teams, but zero IQ and zero effort and it’s a reflection coaching

Addy Brown is one of his best players ever, but he opts to run everything through an individual that can’t play defense nor be effective more than 2 minutes at a time. Ergo, when that person is benched, no one knows how to run an offense.

My simple way to “fix” this team

- Everything runs through Addy first, Jada second.

- Audi is valued as a scorer similar to Hare, Harris, Jackson. She only gets the ball when the opportunity presents itself. We aren’t forcing the ball to her 45 possessions every game because she might score 12 of those possessions unless the opponent isn’t doubling and she has a size advantage.

The scheme right now is truly the dumbest **** I’ve ever seen. She gets triple teamed WITHOUT THE BALL and we have zero idea what else to do with the ball other than dump it to her for an easy turnover.

He gets next year but I don't plan on renewing my season tickets after Audi/Addy/Jada are gone if Bill is the coach after their eligibility expires.

Disagree. Everything should run through Jada first. Addy is slow and while she is great, I think Jada's speed and aggressiveness provides a unique advantage.

I do think that Audi's touches needs to be less, they are so high and some of them are forced resulting in TOs when there are plenty of other options.
