***2026-27 Mens College Basketball Thread***

This is kinda what I was getting at. I don’t want to see him with anymore talent than he has right now. Replacing Stirtz will be about near impossible for next year.
I mean, they aren’t chopped liver. They have a potential lottery pick thst runs everything. And honesty, who have they beat that they shouldn’t have? Losing close games with a veteran group leads to perhaps BAD coaching

You had me until lottery pick.

Don't think they would follow TJ if he changed jobs? That's how college sports works now. Everyone commits to a coach, not a school.

I get it, all I said was McCollum hanging with Michigan is impressive with what he has. A lot of people on here will never give an Iowa coach credit, but that is a hard school to win at in BB. No matter the circumstances of how coach/players got there.
TCU and Wake Forest almost beat Michigan.

Top 20 pick. Can’t see him being lottery pick.

I mean if TJ went to Duke I'd think he'd need to get the Boozers of the world to be able to coach there.

Love ISU's players...but they're not Boozers.

I didn't find PSU's coach impressive for staying with Michigan some random night two months ago and I'll say the same about the new Iowa coach.
Everyone here thought Campbell wouldn't take almost all of ISU's roster to PSU FB, because they thought he would just recruit 4/5 star PSU FB "Boozers" over a lot of his ISU players there because of the namebrand that PSU is. We know how that worked out.

The success of PSU BB and Iowa's BB seasons aren't comparable for me.

UNI up 3 at the under 4. Unbelievable how poorly they are playing down to the competition. Then again, maybe not if you're familiar at all with them this season.

UNI is painful to watch. Talk about a stale product. Jacobsen has done well there, but that style of play is torturous

But it's impressive that Iowa almost beat UM while PSU did too so it's mot impressive? What has Iowa done that's impressive this year?

We actually don't know how it worked out with CMC since he hasn't had a season there or even a spring season.

They definitely have fan support issues. Not sure if it's style of play related or what exactly. They seem to have a decent contingent in STL though

Won 20 or more games. Made the tournament.

Fran hadn't won 20 or more games since '21-'22.

I didn't say anything about how it "worked out" or not record wise or anything like that, just about how Campbell took a TON of ISU players with him contrary to popular (including my own) belief just a few months ago that he would instead find better ranked players for PSU.

You said TJ wouldn't take his players to a blueblood like Duke and would get better recruits. I don't believe he would build a 100% brand new team and bring no one with him (assuming they hypothetically had eligibility left). It's just how college sports is now. Players follow coaches. Moreso than even I previously thought after I saw what happened with Campbell.

The core of 1000ish true UNI fans is rock solid. Just hard to grow that when Iowa State is good and Iowa has hope again.
Just curious as you seem well connected to UNI. Do you see Jacobsen hanging it up anytime soon? He’s still pretty young, so age would indicate no, but they are just hard to watch. And those mid major jobs aren’t getting any easier (see Drake this yesr)

I just think that despite having Iowa and Iowa state, UNI could be really strong in all sports. Great community and facilities seem good.

I didn't say TJ would take his players to Duke, just that if he went to Duke he'd need guys that are lottery pick types out of the gates. Duke is on a whole different level than ISU and personnel is a huge factor in that.

Briefly looking at Iowa's schedule, I'm not sure if winning 20 games with your own players that you had success with elsewhere, in a super top-heavy B1G, is that impressive.

FWIW it seems like he's a good coach, but there's no reason to anoint him of doing much since he really hasn't.
