***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

I was thinking you get rid of him and Darrisaw.

Darrisaw is great when he's healthy, and he's never healthy. Hockenson is past his prime.
Darrisaw isn't going anywhere. The cap hit would be worse if they cut him. They might restructure his contract.

Hockenson won't get cut until after March 11, if at all. He said he is open to taking a pay cut, so that is likely what will happen.

With Jones and Hargrave being cut, to get under the cap for the start of the year, all the need to do is restructure Jefferson and Greenard (or trade or new contract in his case). I assume they will cut Ryan Kelly, or sign him to a much smaller contract

The will also likely do a contract extension with O'Neill.

Other players who could get a restructure are Allen, Murphy, Van Ginkel and Fries.

Seattle would like to thank Kwesi for allowing to let Darnold walk right out of town. Thanks for believing #9 was ready. Great mindtrust running the show in Minnesota.
Let's be realistic here, Darnold didn't put Seattle on his shoulders and bring them to that SB Win, it was Seattle's D. I think any decent QB in the league would have been able to do the same thing. I really don't have an issue with what the Vikings tried to do with JJ. Drafting him was probably dumb, but at least they got him out there (When he wasn't injured) and gave him a shot.

A huge gripe of mine with the Vikings has always been, and I mean always, grabbing used up old QBs and trying to make that work for a season or two instead of really looking for a QB you can draft and build the franchise around. Different owneres, different GMs, it's always the same story with the Vikings.

I don't believe Darnold would have been the Vikings savior, maybe he gets them to the playoffs, but the other issue is the offense they run. The focus is always big downfield plays. That's why I don't think Darnold would have done a whole lot more with the Vikings. KOC doesn't seem to know how to use a game manager QB.

Darnold proved he can win a Superbowl with the right players around him. The Vikings don't have the right players on offense. Darnold is definitely better than #9.

Agree with picking up old former QBs and trying to make a run.... just doesn't work. I want the Vikings to draft a kid and build the team from there. Getting rid of Kwesi is a good start.

I am way more interested in Caleb Downs than Thieneman.
No doubt Downs is the number one safety in the draft, but I’d be shocked if the Vikings trade up for a top 10 pick (especially a safety). But who knows.
I could see them trading down or out of the first round.

Agreed, if they did move up like that it would have to be Jeremiah Love. But we all know KOC doesn't run the ball, so that isn't happening either.

Yea or Nea on Kyler Murray?

I'm willing to be wrong, but nothing about him would suggest he turns it around in Minneapolis. He is a short QB utilizing his athleticism to make plays and has been hurt already. He is the anti-Purdy and I'd rather see someone like Flacco or Geno signed who can mentor McCarthy and maybe make a QB out of him.

Yay simply because it’d be vet minimum and he’s still pretty talented

Agree Murray would be shaky, but I’d take him any day over Geno. Gotta believe Flacco is done.

JJ is a bust. Bridgewater wasn't bad but had injury issues. Ponder was one of the worst picks of all time. I think the Vikings are cursed when it comes to drafting that position. Some of those old QBs had some success, but yeah it would be great to actually draft someone that ended up being a good franchise QB.

It's exactly this. They can't afford a real option here. the 49ers want a day 2 pick bare minimum for Mac Jones which we would have to pair with a new contract. The decision is between Kyler or Geno for the vet minimum. I'd rather see what Kyler has in the tank than look to Geno personally.

Worst case, he's awful and you let JJ get some more games to see if he has a chance to be the guy or not. If they both tank out, hopefully you bottom out enough to get a top 8 pick in what should be a deep QB draft class (along with the potential that the Bengals also suck and Burrow gets fed up and demands a trade)

I don't want Kyler. I just don't think the guy loves football and yes, he will probably still have a hot moment or two in his career, because he's super talented, but i don't think he has enough dog in him to win at a high level.

It's a fair opinion to have. I just don't know how many options they truly have at the position in 26'. If you have faith in JJ, that is awesome. It sure feels like this staff has decided that bare minimum JJ isn't ready for the bright lights.....yet. (I personally think that rookie year injury really hurt the development. KOC knew he wanted a guy to sit for a year to fix the footwork etc. and instead he didn't get any of that).

Truly the options are:
Kyler, Kirk, or Geno as a cheap group, where you don't give up on McCarthy but give him a year to learn again while not losing the locker room with guys like Jettas.

Trade a day 2? pick for Mac Jones who will be expensive under a new contract which you will want since you gave up that kind of draft capital for him. (This options tighten cap room a lot and with the holes we have to fill a day 2 pick hurts).

Trade a day 2 pick for Anthony Richardson which is truly a wild card with under 200 game reps at any level college included. (With really only a year to evaluate since his contract is coming due as well). Keep in mind the Colts chose Daniel Jones over him.

Trade the absolute farm for a guy like Burrow which I don't think is really an option.

Sign Malik Willis to a 30 mil a year contract (LOL) We should never do this.

Sign the cancer that is Aaron Rodgers.

Run it back with JJ and hope that somehow he gets a crap ton more efficient and reliable than what he was last year.

Reminder: KOC is fighting for his job THIS season. He NEEDS to find a way into the playoffs in 26'. Anything short of that where you don't figure out your QB of the future and he is getting fired.

I'm a huge Vikings fan, and yes I am saying this: Cut salary and start this over. Throw #9 out there to start (he'll play in about 5 games and be injured for the rest). Get an old QB off the scrap heap for a year to back up #9. Tank this season and draft a QB in the 1st round in 2027. Kwesi was a complete disaster and you need to start over.

I know this may not be popular with some of you, but the Vikings are not close to contending... so I say blow it up and start over.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't want Kyler. I think he'd rather play call of duty than call plays in the NFL. But the other options this year are awful - Geno Smith, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers. Gross.

Having said that, I've kind of come to this conclusion. The ultimate goal is to find a franchise QB. Geno, Kirk, and Rodgers are a bandaid. A one year - maybe 2 year, fix. Kyler is 28. Why not take a flyer? If he is awful, you have a top 10 pick next year and can draft a QB or try to use it as ammo to trade for someone. If KOC gets the best out of him, he's a talented option. In that case, he's young enough he could be your guy for the next several years. I don't think he will be, but if those are the 4 options - at least take a chance on the guy that could have future impact instead of another one year bandaid.

I'm for sarting JJ and just tanking if he's not got it and can't improve. Kyler might get us a few wins, but living in PHX the dude is a pain in the azz and a malcontent. He certainly isn't getting anyone close to a SB, so why bother?

Probably right.
So does this mean we try to convince Kirk he is now in the ‘cheap’ category as a backup?
