I was on coaching staff when we qualified for NCAA Tournament, so not entire existence. And again, entire Big XII has soccer, we have high school soccer in Iowa.

And when you go back to his original staff, there wasn’t a lot of coaching experience there outside of one main person. I looked at the gymnastics coaching staff and the HC was the only one who wasn’t coaching when the staff was assembled.
Now throw in that the Ryan person is one post that people are pointing to but at the same time we are told he didn’t have any experience so why are we accepting what he says? It’s such a weird situation. It’s making more sense why the decision to move on was made as more people post.
with all the support of gymnastics on here and other social media, you'd think the meets were always sold out. With this much support gymnastics should have been swimming in ticket sales and donation revenue.

Because the truth hurts, them as much as anyone, because they might have to admit they were also part of the problem.
Im not excusing the coaches, parents, gymnasts, or even AD. Sounds like there is plenty of blame to go around. Which also means it is probably best for the University to move on from said program.
In the end, JP and President, are who makes the final decision on the program, so I get blaming him. I also understand that being a thorn in the side of the guy making the decisions is probably not a good idea.
I will say it again,
Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease, sometimes it gets replaced.
I'm far from attending every meet but it's still sad to see the program go. Easily my third favorite cyclone sport behind football and men's basketball.
My daughter is 6 and in gymnastics, she's seen the cyclones gymnastics team in person twice now. Beauty and the beast was always fun. Hosting 4-6 teams where there's constant action was always a blast. Heck, when the gymnastics girls do the half time show for basketball, it was always my favorite halftime show.
I get that it's a business decision and that my favorite sports come first as they actually make money. Still disappointed to never watch them again.

Wait so we used to be good and now we are not? Did we lose the tourney qualifying coach? I know we lost the good tennis coach a few yrs back. It was kind of funny how well watched those matches on line were. Bunch of non tennis people all jumping on the ISU tennis bandwagon to cheer them on, through the internet.

Hundreds to thousands of opinions on social media...how many of them ACTUALLY attended meets or donated with any regularity? I'm guessing a very, VERY small percentage.
Amen. If you are going to call others out for lack of transparency, try being transparent yourself and POST WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED or at least your experience/side of the story...

From the moment they cancelled the WV meet, all the way up to today’s cancellation of the entire program, there’s been chatter and speculation about the department’s handling of the program, steady streams of comments from athletes, their families, and alumni, but has there been a single public comment or statement from Coach Grieg?

Scott Dochman has a piece in The Athletic about this. Women’s Wrestling and Flag Football are the two sports he mentions as possible considerations. He also provides a little bit more information about past problems w the program. FWIW
I'm guessing women's wrestling. There have been some good posts in this thread about the costs of sports in general. It sounds like between paying the coaching staff and travel, any sport added will end up being roughly the same cost. Women's wrestling would probably generate the most fan interest, which would translate to attendance money which would offset some of the cost.
And in addition, the travel of women's wrestling would likely be lower than most women's programs. There are 10 current women's wrestling programs in Iowa, with one more planned, and no conference requirement because no other B12 schools sponsor it. An ISU women's team could create its entire season schedule without getting on a plane. Even the national championship is in Coralville.
It's the exact same thing with wanting baseball back. I went to a couple of baseball games and nobody was at the game. Just players parents and a few scragglers. Now every single Iowa State fan wants baseball back. Like nobody showed up the first time, why waste money on it.
