Tang gonna Tang

KSU signed Haggerty for a reported $2 million deal with an additional $500,000 in incentives.

The Wildcats also landed Andrej Kostic, who reportedly received a $2.5 million deal.

So possibly $5M on two players.
Kostic is clearly not having fun. Even if they wanted to keep him there is no way he entertains staying in Manhattan next year. I would imagine he will be more careful about simply going to the highest bidder next time.

I always thought that was a head scratcher. Tamin spends a lot of time on the floor but that is because he seeks out contact and doesn't have the biggest body when he does it in the paint. He will throw his head when he is smacked like pretty much every guard will do to sell a call but he doesn't go down at a light touch, he plays through it. You don't see Tamin going down from light contact, he tries to play through it and get an 'and one' rather than just flopping to get to the line.

Someone please tell me I'm seeing it through a homer's eyes if I am, but that is what I see.
He'll sometimes do the "sniper shot to the head" move to try to draw a call. But, compared to the physicality of what actually happens to him without being called, it's paltry. Tamin is a warrior and one of the toughest Cyclones I've watched

I always wonder how that affects the locker room in terms of teamwork.

It's bad enough to pay $2 million for a player, but to add incentives on top of this for achieving a certain number of points, rebounds, assists, or whatever is ridiculous. When a player is focused on getting X number of points per game, that player is no longer focused on winning.

I thought it was interesting when TJ said several months ago that the first time they had all of this year's players together, he wrote down on the dry erase board the amount of money each player was being paid. I can guarantee you none of them had incentives written into their contract.

Kostic is averaging 4.3 points in 12.8 minutes per game on 38% shooting. That is a steep bill for that productivity.

Yes, that was the "throw his head back" I was referring to, but that is pretty common among guards these days. Definitely not something that would make him "the biggest flopper in the league".

If you're getting peanuts and busting your ass on both ends and your highly paid teammates are mailing it in half the time, it would have to grate on your last nerve after a while, particularly if you're focused on trying to win and you can tell they're not.

But at least we're talking about rational 18-23 year old male athletes and not your typical 18-23 year old males who are testosterone-filled, sometimes irrational, and overly-competitive about dumb ****.

Giving 2.5 mill to a guy that looks like Rex Orange County is a bold move:

I was unhappy when Iowa canned Fran for two reasons: 1) we lost the entertainment value of seeing him lose his mind during games and the fact that he was never going to take Iowa basketball to a level that would exceed ISU 2) Iowa would luck out and actually hire a good coach which apparently, they have done. So I hate to see Tang so. BTW, what happened to his last year's NIL money ill spent on the Illinois center transfer who was going to be the next big thing in Manhattan?
Let’s wait and see on Iowa. This off-season will really tell us a lot on Ben’s ability to recruit.

How does a player continue to play and try for a coach that basically said they dont deserve to be there?

That all the issues they are having is their fault, and continues to push blame on anyone and anything so long as he doesnt have to admit any fault of his own.

Seriously, how does anyone remotely show up after that? How do they not all line up and announce they are leaving at that very minute?

Everyone, said people left to follow the coach when Campbell left, because they loved him and wanted to play for the coach not the school. How do players play for a coach, the fans, and a school that have publicly said they dont deserve to play there? And that all the problems they are having are their fault.

I think it's like someone riding out those last few months at a job they know they're leaving. You still want to get paid, but your heart's not in it.

We're witnessing a team where some players are financially incentivized for certain metrics, other players are still "interviewing" for their next job while on the court, and the rest clearly don't give a ****.

It's a recipe for lack of cohesion. Likely, the only thing unifying the players is a dislike for their coach.

Yeah, he is captivated by bright shiny objects, but the bright shiny object sits on a pile of ****.

To him, the pile of **** IS the bright shiny object

They play for their future. Quitting would not look good for them. The ones who want a shot at the pros want to show their abilities and those who want a good semi-pro (aka college NIL) payment want to show their abilities. So it can be a lot of hero ball or 1v3 type plays.
