***2026 Winter Olympics (Milano Cortina) Thread***

Stinks for Vonn but hopefully people focus more on Breezy Johnson who won the Gold than on what happened to Vonn. Probably won't happen though.

The best downhill runs are always on the edge of out of control. Congrats to her for the gold!

Hope her recovery goes smoothly but maybe it's time Vonn finally hangs 'em up. Seems like there's been more media buzz over her crashes the past few years than anything else. I'm sure there are young up-and-comers who can take the torch from here.
Breezy did win the gold, but 30 so.

I don't know exactly how it works but I imagine Vonn being there meant another U.S. skier didn't make it.
I believe that"s correct.

And yes, Vonn qualified legitimately and it should be her decision to compete or not (within reason). I think she should have chosen not to. In my opinion, which admittedly knows nothing first hand of Olympic level performance & competion, a skier with two working knees would have been better for the team.

Saw that, she did awesome. I don't know exactly how it works but I imagine Vonn being there meant another U.S. skier didn't make it.
Yeah, above it was posted 11 women total on the ski team and 4 max for individual event. Gotta earn your way though.

I couldn’t disagree more with those saying she shouldn’t have competed. She more than earned that right, and even her training run time proved that she could contend.

I would bet almost anything that her knee had nothing to do with her crash today either. When going that fast, any little error can cost you, and she happened to clip the gate which just as easily could have happened to her replacement too.

How many NFL quarterbacks play injured, because someone like Pat Mahomes on one leg is still better than the backup.

In fact, had this been Vonn’s replacement that hit the gate and crashed…. everyone would have wondered if Vonn would have done better?

It’s a stupid take IMO.

If she earned her spot then 100% she deserved to be there, but I agree she should've stepped aside and let an alternate step in when she ruptured the ACL. I understand the desire to have one more Olympic experience but she had to know she wasn't going to be anywhere near her best on that knee.

She earned the right to compete and to choose to continue, she just failed horrifically.

If it was a team sport I would agree. But she was competing as an individual under the banner of team USA. If her alternate wanted to ski she should of done better and earn the individual spot.

Hmmm.... let me guess... you were okay with Spencer Lee winning a national title with no ACL's... right? Or is that different? Why didn't Spencer Lee sit out and let someone else go?

I'm feeling some serious Vonn hatred in this thread. Who's to say, or question, how she felt about her chances to get a medal?? Her backup might have had a ceiling of getting 5th place or something... while Vonn's ceiling might have been a gold medal.

Who is anyone on here to say?

JFC.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday pal. Hope you enjoy.

Vonn had the right to choose to go. I just don't agree with her choice to go, a bit selfish IMO.
Are you also against KF for playing hurt kids too... even if they are better playing hurt than the backup would be??

Because KF is kinda known for that. Or.... just maybe... he leaves it up to the doctors and the kid's decision?

You always seem so angry, lol.
Haha... only at inconsistent beliefs.. that's all.

I sure wish Spencer Lee had stepped aside though and let someone else go instead... so selfish. (and yes, I know he couldn't have done that, I'm just making a point).
