Free Solo: Alex Honnold

Why? Anyone watching the live feed is doing so just to see if they’re going to watch a person die. Is that where we are in entertainment now? I just don’t get it.

There is literally nothing I would want to watch less.

Love the documentary and loved the Alpinist, but only because I knew the outcome going into it.

Yeah, now that I think about it, if something horrible were to happen live, it would be so painful to witness. Yikes.

The only “nice” thing is that it’s on a ten second delay so you wouldn’t actually see anything (and it would be cut a few seconds before anything happened).

But you would still know that something really bad had happened.

I have no interest in watching it

Talking to my buddy who is an avid climber, he says that this climb is actually pretty easy and essentially a "ladder". Only thing that would cause Honnold to fail would be a terrible weather situation, but the building itself won't be a difficult free climb for someone with Honnold's climbing abilities

Yeah I'd have to imagine his El Capitan free solo was probably harder, this is probably mostly endurance rather than technically challenging. Also having places to bail out make it less dangerous I'd guess.

Plus, unlike El Cap, if the weather get's super bad or something happens, They can just open a window and pull him in. El Cap he was screwed if something went bad

Yeah I am down to watch. Free Solo was the most nerve wracking hour and a half of my life. I white knuckled the whole movie basically. That is also know he already had made it and was doing interviews.

I’m a climber and a very novice surfer. These climbing and especially surfing docs are even more scary to me knowing at least a hint of the scale. Surfing docs especially I know how a 6 foot wave is massive (and can jack you up) lying on my board approaching it and the idea of a 30+ foot wave nearly makes me wet my pants. Free Solo in IMAX same thing, if anything having bouldered a 20 foot rock without a rope (scary) made me MORE afraid than if I had never climbed.

I am a climber also. I tried to do some surfing in the Marines in Oceanside (Not real big waves), however, they were big enough that when one of the bigger ones came and a I tried it, I thought I was gonna die. Compared to some of these surfing videos it's not even close. I was on North Shore of hawaii and those waves are so big I would barely put my feet in the Ocean and those dudes were out there cutting it up. Crazy

You ever watched the documentary Riding Giants about big wave surfing? One of the best docs I’ve seen.
