Bill Fennelly

I remember that as well. To call it Ancient history is BS. EDIT: And far from the only time, sick or not.

He doesn't chew out the players as badly as he used to do....but those dirty looks he gives are a bad. There seems to be a lack of in game coaching....just being frustrated at the players.

The assistants have started doing it as well......

He is not a good coach and desires fan accolades that his coaching hasn't earned.
Bill is in his 31st season as ISU’s head coach and he’s never won a stand-alone regular season conference title. This was researched by a member of the board respected by all, an actuary in real life, and no other head coach has been at a P5 school for 30 years without winning a SARSCC. I’m pretty certain no coach at any level down to DIII, has matched this record - no school other than ISU would tolerate it.

His supporters will cite his twenty win seasons. I would submit in today’s NCAA, twenty WBB wins is good not great, and certainly doesn’t guarantee a trip to the NCAA tournament. It’s sure as hell not worthy of a lifetime contract.

I guess it’s possible for two things to be true:

1. Bill has had a great career and did a great job building this program and fan support from nothing. He’s made life easier for the coach that will follow him.

2. Every coach has an expiration date. Even the legends. We’ve seen this countless times across multiple sports. Even someone like Geno will reach a point where he needs to hang it
I do not disagree but Bill currently is the Third winningest coach active in Division 1 behind Geno and Wes Moore. Sits about 17th all time for Coaches at the Div 1 level.

Those saying he deserves no accolades are simple wrong.

A more recent example: near the end of the Iowa game this year, so close to the end that the outcome was no longer in doubt, he blew up on the S&C coach and one of the student managers. Don't know what they could possibly have done to warrant that.
I remember seeing him rip into 2 people, not players for some reason.

You hate Bill to be honest you opinions a so biased they are hard to listen too.

Is it time for a change? Yes I think so, but you are firmly in the Joens family corner, they hate Bill, so do you.

Yeah I don't understand that. Her effort on defense warrants multiple ass chewings a game. She's just going through the motions. Not sure why she's smiling down 20. Will there be a mass exodus after the season?
probably not if he stays. if he is gone maybe more than expected, but after next years team graduates it will be time for a rebuild anyway, kinda like football would have been next year

I'll never forget when I was so excited to buy tickets to an away game and we got second row behind the team bench. I was taking my 10-year-old daughter at the time, and we were so excited to go to the game and be so close to a team and have the experience.

Boy, did I surely regret it about three minutes into the first quarter when Bill just started unloading F-bombs on the team when things weren't going well and at the officials. We ended up moving seats through the second half. :D :jimlad::D:jimlad::D

I don't like his sideline demeanor, at all. It's one thing to rip into your players, I can understand some level of tough coaching. But that seems like it's all he does. He stands there fuming until he yanks somebody from the game or blows up. It doesn't feel like he's "coaching" at all. TJ is a fiery guy and gets very animated, but you never get the feeling he's angry AT his players. He's upset at not meeting the standard and getting fired up to show he cares. Bill just seems like he's pissed because they're not doing what he expects, even though he's not helping them.
You don't watch much women's basketball do. Spend some time watching some of the top teams coaches at time outs.
But from the comments I see we have a number of experts on here who could be the next coach and take us to the champion ship first year.

Iowa has done a hell of a job parlaying their success with Clark into more. You have to think they are probably a more attractive program for recruits.
It’s not even close. That’s what sucks the worst. We had this state covered until about 10 years ago and then seceded it to Iowa. Not sure if we ever had a shot at Clark, but Bill would have never let that happen. Look what they’ve parlayed thst into.

We have a premier AAU outfit in Ames, and should have a pipeline. That is not the case. I see Jensen in Iowa City tonight. Not sure relationship there, but seems like an opportunity lost.

Without doing research, I would guess that he is also top 5 or 10 for most losses. Seems like all those wins are mostly due to longevity and not some elite success.

It would be interesting to see how he ranks in career winning %. Again taking a guess, but probably barely top 50 I would guess.
