Rocco joining the Transfer Portal

I’m sure it varies by kid. And by how much money youre talking about.

Would most of them change schools and give up playing time for another 30k after taxes? Probaly not. Especially if they have NFL aspirations.

But if you know you’re never playing football after college and someone throws you another couple hundred thousand dollars maybe you go ride the pine and take your money.
If they have NFL aspirations, they won't think they are giving up playing time at their new school. Those 2 thoughts probably would never coincide in a person's mind.

"I'm confident I can make it to the NFL but know I'm not good enough to be a starter at Penn State, so I better stay at Iowa State."

That would be tough, to know you have almost no chance to play again and are going to just sit on the bench for 500k vs 300k. I don’t think I could do it.
Is this hypothetical or do you think any of the transfers to Penn State have almost no chance to play again?

I’m sure this is going about as well as you’d expect with a lot of these kids. Get 100k, spend it on a car or some other depreciating assets, set aside nothing for taxes.
Blum might know for sure, but I'm guessing the payments these athlete's receive are getting taxes withheld.

If they’re not employees how would that happen? Maybe it does - could be wrong - but I don’t know how that would work.

Interesting read, but not much really new. It is wrong on one aspect- I, and I’m guessing most Iowa State fans won’t be tuning in to see how it goes. I legitimately do not care how Campbell or any of our now former players do moving forward. I want to celebrate the people who chose to be here, not those that left
Couldn't agree more. That is exactly how Matt felt about his own players who entered the portal. Well, Matt chose to enter the college coach's portal, so why should we feel any differently about him?

I don't have ill will toward Campbell, I just no longer care how he, or any of our former players who followed him, do from this moment forward. I'm no longer interested.

This is one question I haven’t seen asked or answered…wonder how good these guys have been at addressing TAXES?

I can’t help but think it’s not been a focus.

I also doubt much of the NIL money to date has been invested. At least not in appreciating assets.
Who cares? They aren't my kids.

Well…at one point Universities were supposed to help people create a better life and future for themselves…

I know we’ve blown way past that…but I’m a hopeful optimist.
I’m sure there are people on staff they can go to with questions if it makes you feel better.

These players also have agents and while it’s cockeyed optimism that they should be doing their job, they should be instructing these kids.

This. All the hand wringing over whether or not these young adults know how to pay taxes is silly. It's as if no other young person has ever gotten paid before. I promise everyone, these are not the first group of young people who have gotten lots of money before and they won't be the last. Most will figure it out, some won't. Whatever. They are adults and it's none of our business how they handle their money.

I see you’re not a true fan then. This is how you treat the greatest coach who elevated our program for 10 years? What more do you want?
To be quite honest, CMC made his bed in 'how' he left. I'll never forget the adage: "One f**k up, erases a thousand attaboys" On paper, you're exactly right. He elevated the program to unprecedented levels. But, it was the unified effort of several elements from AD, to staff, to fans.

A player might choose to be a featured player at their position rather than being slotted as a reserve at a "better" school especially if they're a senior.
