Whatever this kid is getting he has earned
He's doing well for himself, but he turned down slightly more to stay because he wasn't going to be on a TOP 3 RANKED TEAM like this elsewhere!!!

Jefferson should end his career as a very beloved Cyclone legend. Gotta appreciate the ones who stayed now more than ever.

I really hate when people act like Fizer "didn't stay", he could've left as a sophomore and then we don't have our best team ever, he would have projected first round I'm sure. He was a high lottery pick when he went. It lacks perspective. Not saying you but I hear it too often.

100%. There is leaving to another school and there is leaving for the draft when you’re ready. He went #4 which could be our highest ever draft pick for a VERY long time and the year after was arguably a better class - especially for bigs.

That’s just a smart decision and we should want any of our players to do the same damn thing given the circumstances.

I couldn’t believe tonight when they flashed up that Jefferson only scored 2ppg as a freshman at St Mary’s.

Outside of a bout 10-15 players a year you really don’t know what you have in freshmen in college basketball.

True. I think time was in Fizer's favor and he is very much still a beloved Cyclone legend too.

And going to the pros? I don't see that the same way as transferring schools.

It also depends on how you act/come back/rep ISU: i.e. think Haliburton.

Jefferson got offered by an SEC program. He said thanks, but no thanks, I'll take the bump in pay from ISU, but take a little less to stay with a loaded team and play for a stud coach & culture.

That’s the hardball we are playing now. Especially players who aren’t from Midwest we should expect this sort of decision making process when there is HIGH demand for their skills. He seems like an incredibly smart young man and he probably has aspirations for the next level and in the end chose the successful position ISU is in vs a gamble with another program.

For the health of both fb and bball I think even two year contracts would go a long way towards some stability though. This isn’t “pro sports” because the Yankees don’t have to re-sign 100% of their roster every single year and players can’t just take their money and decide to sit out the end of a season. They’re all making a lot of money but it’s something very different than “pro sports”.

Some of the massive improvements players have made under Otz is incredible. Jefferson, Curtis Jones, Brockington

On the W&B podcast with Eustachy last year, he said Fizer was planning to come back for his senior year until his mother lost her house in a fire in the spring of 2000, so he left to get the lottery pick money so he could buy her a house.

The 2000-01 team with Marcus would have been quite a team!
