PSU Campbell Presser

These kids have no f'ing clue, do they? No idea whatsoever where the money comes from that pay them.

You see more and more attitudes like this.... and there will be more and more fans checking out. We'll see how that goes for the future of college sports.
What he thought the fans would just take it bending over while the entire starting line up gets poached? Brother you and your teammates are choosing to leave the team that we root for and leaving the cupboard bare, of course there's going to be some pissed off fans. Especially on Twitter of all places.

I forget we're not dealing with the most intelligent people here.

I wish him well. But don't blame the fans for everything, fans throughout the sport keep getting f'ed over time and again and the powers that be keep asking for more.

Yeah, fans can definitely be fickle, and no one should be harassing the players, but the mindset he’s posting about doesn’t really apply to this situation. I think it’s fair for fans to be critical of and upset at the players leaving.

They better remember who's paying their "salary", same for arrogant coaches like Campbell who get to make a living the rest of us can only dream about just because we like a sport.

That's why I get upset when coaches blow off the media or act like they are too good to answer questions. They aren't **** without us.
Arent you the one that’s always talking down to people who give to we will? Who do you mean “us” lmao - you give more grief to the people paying cooper’s salary than cooper did here

How is me saying I will never give a dime and won't be a part of NIL "talking down" to people?

Don't you dare try to turn this around on us now and play the victirm.. You know how many hundreds of posts there have been on here the last few years blaming us for not being able to afford players or blaming us when we lose a game?

Nice gasligting attempt.

Just remember who’s paying their “salaries” - it’s not you

Yep, right on cue, if we don't give anything every loss, every player we don't get, every coach we can't retain, all on us, and if we speak out our opinion doesn't matter because we didn't give enough.

This notion was planted in the minds of the players by Matt Campbell

This is not unique to ISU or MC, but anybody that thought MC was different or unique was really gullible.

Despite the fact that their industry exists only because fans shell out money to buy tickets, merchandise, donate, and subscribe to TV networks and their apps, coaches despise fans. They know they have to tolerate them, or act like they tolerate them, and there are moments when people are lapping up their ******** that they might actually like the fans, but generally they want the fans to sacrifice to shell out their last dollars so they can make $5M a year and they can rent some players for a couple years, then STFU.

None of this is hard. Fans are the customers. Coaches and players are service providers. When coaches and players cash the checks from the customers, then bail for more money from other customers, fans are going to be a bit salty. Unfortunately the industry is set up like this, and instead of revolting to create some organization and structure that can protect the customers a little and ensure long-term health of the sport, fans are racing each other to keep shelling out even more.

It's not the players' fault. They are constantly getting the us against the world nonsense within the football facilities. And I don't blame players for getting annoyed with fans. There are some real douche-ass fans out there.

Good luck to Cooper. He busted his ass at ISU, did some great things, and I'm guessing wasn't raking in a ton of money. Having a major injury definitely should make any player realize that nothing is guaranteed, and getting some cash to help solidify your future is totally reasonable. But don't publicly put out snarky comment to fans. There isn't some magical pot of money that appears, and a bunch of fans just coexist with it. Like it or not, those fans are the reason you have these opportunities.

People that are buying tickets, parking passes, donating to get tickets, buying merch, subscribing to ESPN+ to watch games are all paying for their salaries as well.

This is the idiocy that college football has become. Having a good fanbase full of loyal customers isn't even a model to be competitive in the future.

Yeah I don't even completely blame the players/coaches operating within the environment the way they do just because fan sentiment can always change if they start losing. However, if it's been decided that college football is going to turn into a semi-professional league, it would be nice if it actually had a sensible design and wasn't a free-for-all. At the moment, it feels like there are no rules, a fake playoff, and really no reason for most people to have interest in the sport outside of the immediate university they support (but maybe the TV networks get better ratings among casuals?).

It's basically a crappy semi-pro league at the moment where I don't see why you wouldn't just watch the NFL instead.

Its not semi-pro. Its professional sports.

When schools announce they have reached a deal for a player to return or an agent has confirmed the player is in the portal?

Thats professional sports. The fans and players need to act accordingly

Oh...the fans love us until they hate us? You're a pro. You left. Don't expect loyalty out of us. We didn't get it from you. You are not a victim. You made a business decision

It's gone way past all the concerns of the worst about college football turning into NFL-light or a pro league.

It is the worst of all worlds. A bunch of one-year free agents with no salary cap. It's going to take some time, but eventually 90% of the teams will figure out there is zero hope in competing. There was never parity in the old model, and having players get a cut instead of just the exploitative coaches making millions per year off these kids and fans was a needed change.

They don't need and will never get NFL type parity. Not even close. But it's going the wrong direction and it's going to keep getting worse. Having some reasonable level of competitive balance is an improvement.

There's a reason the NFL has structured it's league to drive parity, and there's a reason it's growth and viewership are booming while college football ratings over the past few years have been more of a mixed bag. Playoff ratings are down. Last year's title game that involved two of the bluest of blue bloods was down from the prior year.

There was a false sense of growth last year because some of the major bowl game ratings were up. No ****, they went from worthless exhibitions with opt outs to being part of the playoff. The expanded playoffs helped boost regular season ratings overall this year, as there were far more meaningful games with playoff implications late in the season.

100% agree on that. Rubs me the wrong way when there are folks on here that have spent 5yrs talking down to folks funding the player fund acting like they got burned. If you were loudly discouraging others from giving to WWC, you’re just as much in the wrong as Coop IMO

This was the year. If Ped St didn’t hire Campbell, there a good chance Michigan would have.
Klatt’s take was that of the remaining available coaches, Campbell was the best fit for either opening.

Without the rules that a league like the NFL uses to maintain competitive balance.

Well... he said they were all a TEAM.... and I guess that true? TEAM Campbell.... when he went, they almost all went. Certainly NOT Team Iowa State though... had nothing to do with Iowa State it turns out.
