***Official portal tracker thread***

Don't be obtuse, I am giving him a chance. I'm saying that calling him a home run hire at this point is crazy.
“He’s lost 90% of our returning players” You talk like all these transfers fall squarely on his shoulders. Sure as hell doesn’t sound like you’re giving him any sort of chance. The transfer portal hasn’t even opened.

I am assuming the coaching search started when Matt negotiated his buyout to be lowered significantly. JP had to know there were signs then.

Yea…that should have never been allowed to happen.

If you want to be critical of JP…I’d give you this point.

If you’re it leaving, then $8m isn’t a problem. If you want higher pay to stay…well, we need insurance to cover your loss.

A couple posts in this thread mentioned PSU paying Rocco $3.5M and Brahmer $1.5M.

So both would be close to the top 25 in earners for 2025 (Rocco #7 and Brahmer just out of the top 25).

If PSU wants to blow their money like that then more power to them. This graphic should PROVE how overpaid these guys are for their results.

Some of these guys should be arrested for grand theft.

Im holding out hope that 8-10 of these guys come to their senses and return to ISU. Of the 40+ guys in the portal right now, I’m guessing 12-15 will stay at the P5 level.

If ISU is really paying out $12 million in revenue sharing, I’d have a base of around $70k for each player with bonuses after playing 5th game of the year (to avoid ‘preserving redshirt’) and another for playing in a bowl game.

There’s no in person meetings, but nothing is stopping coaches from contacting players right now.
Pretty sure the rule states you can not contact anyone that is not in the portal. Being the portal is not even open, there should be no contact. But no on follows that rule, because no one cares, and no one is in control of anything at this point.

Michigan…MICHIGAN hired a 66 year old coach that got pushed out of his last job.

Pedo state got their 6th choice…and for all CMC did here, let’s not pretend he’s the 2nd coming of Nick Saban. He did a ton of good, but his loyalty, game day decisions, inability to get an O really going at a top level…those are all issues still left unaddressed.

We got a guy who just wins. He’s young. He’s been a HC. He was hand picked to take over a dynasty by his former HC. He’s shown loyalty (13 yrs at SDST), he wants to be close to wife’s family & in a P4 conference. We got him for a low price, got him with an AD he’s already close to and wanted to work for…and was willing to do what was needed to get this job (go to WSU).

Yea, I didn’t know who he was either. But that’s not my job. That’s JP’s. He obviously knew this was a possibility…and you can say JP didn’t do what was needed to keep MC. Unless he’s shutting gold eggs and hiding it from us…or he’s got a way to pry money out of conservative Iowa State alumni…there wasn’t anything he could do.

BUT…if you got one name we should have went after…we’re all ears.

Yeah and those were different times back before the Big 12. Rhoads wasn't great, but he had some decent seasons.
Paul Rhoads’s tenure at ISU was the most impactful by any coach at any school in the modern era.

First, despite both losing to Missouri in the final game of the 2009 season and finishing behind them in the standings, his Cyclones leapfrogged the Tigers and were selected to play in the Insight Bowl. This snub purportedly served as a catalyst for Missouri’s jump to the SEC, kicking off realignment that ultimately destroyed two power conferences.

Second, by defeating #2 Oklahoma State Paul Rhoads’s 2011 Cyclone team created a rematch of the 6-9 OT “thriller” between Alabama and LSU in the BCS title game. Alabama avenged their loss with a 21-0 title game win that was somehow even more boring. This galvanized the college football world and was directly responsible for the creation of the CFP.

Either one of these things would place Rhoads at the top of the list, but both? He is the architect of modern college football.

The 2026 class is filling up nicely.
The sad thing about having to do it this way is the players don’t get the typical accolades they normally get when committing in the traditional cycle. A lot of fluff that normally goes with a commitment to ISU does just not happen. It is sort of the first step in Cyclone adulation.

I assume this is sarcasm?
