Defense...but she has to be part of the offense. She has been most of the year, but not tonight.
Early in the season our offense was really good. Surprisingly, teams are now choosing not to double Audi and we are really stagnant at times. We need to make some adjustments.
I don’t think it’s the single coverage on Audi…the team has been streaky of late. Just like the Iowa game…take a double digit lead and take their foot off the gas. Kind of weird. And today’s lack of involvement by so many players was very weird.

It’s not a lack of involvement problem, it’s a lack of creativity problem. We are literally two passes and feed the post. It’s ridiculous how rarely the guards even touch the ball.
We average 9 made threes a game, and I know our forward shoots some but its mostly guards. Just a weird game with a team that gave Audi 41 points to limit our guards.
Against garbage teams… the two teams with a pile we have played our offense has been really stagnant.

This is true, but it's a tricky situation. I mean, pounding it into Audi for layups is very efficient. But today we traded 2s for 3s, and it almost bit us in the ass. I agree we need more creative sets. I liked the fake dribble handoff with Williams taking it to the hoop. WIlliams and Brown should be tough in a two man game, but that requires Audi to leave the lane, and her defender can camp in the middle and make it 3 on 2.
Fennelly has always been content to let teams shoot threes. But we gave up way too many easy buckets inside and outside. We're always a poor defensive IQ team. We must not practice team defense much. All of our players are completely fixated on their individual assignment instead of helping or anticipating. It's frustrating to watch because most high school teams practice shell drill every day. We're often completely unaware.
I’ve said it for the last two years but we have too much talent to play the way we do. If you gave this roster to Jan Jensen they would absolutely cook. Audi doesn’t need to score 30+ every game, we are a much better team than that.
If that gosh Deng short jumper had gone in, your team would have won at the last second. (I'll show myself out).
But is playing up tempo and perimeter oriented more efficient than 41 points on 19/28 shooting? It might be more entertaining, but I'm not sure it would be more effective. I thought defense was the biggest issue today.
I tend to agree that we should play Audi less and vary our play. But we've also seen Iowa and KU instantly go on runs when she leaves the game. It's a unique situation. I'm not as sold on our talent as you are. Williams and Brown are skilled. But Brown isn't uber athletic. Hare's ball handling is average. Jackson can bring the ball up but isn't much of a threat to penetrate. Our guards aren't skilled enough to be run and gun.

Lol there’s a huge difference betweeen “run and gun” and running some motion. It’s crazy how under utilized Brown is. Kansas couldn’t defend Audi but there are teams that are going to slow her down.
You need to revisit those games. Iowa? Five threes and shoot 53% from the floor. 22 Assists. 74 points.
Indiana? 6 threes. Shoot 64%. 22 assists. 105 points.
Marquette? 8 threes. Shoot 48%. 16 assists. 84 points.
That’s a stagnant offense for you.
Have you watched the team at all this year? Brown has been a MAJOR part of the offense all season and was again today.
That's a good one, but the real problem was not the GoshDeng shooter, but the GodXXXX coach. Why would you sit your top scorer for the 3rd quarter and two short periods during the 4th when a game is that close ??
And just for the record I was never a "Baylor" fan. Im a high school dropout. I am a true blue through and through WBB fan. When BU hired that fiery little coach out of LA Tech I began rooting for them because she gave me something to root for. The day "The General" left so did my heart. Believe me when Baylor comes to Ames this year I will be rooting for the Cyclones and I make no apologies to anybody for that. I still go to the games here because its close by and I like WBB. If it wasn't so far I would go to every game played both in Ames & Baton Rouge. Thank God for TV.
We did not recruit Fandel so she had a statement to prove today. Also, we just left her wide open, Kenzie could have done the same thing.
