***Official portal tracker thread***

It has just been instituted, and you think it's working, and will stop all of this in the future. But in the real world, TT spent $50 million NIL on player this year, and will do it again next year. So show me where it's working.
That $20 million will be sued over and we all know it, the split will never be what some people want, the non money making sports athletes will quickly be in court when they realize that they are getting a few thousand while someone on the money making sports is making a million or more. Keep thinking this a cure all and is going to put the tooth paste back in the tube, but you are going to be disappointed.

They only spent $50M this year because they spent it BEFORE the revenue sharing cap was instituted. They most definitely will not spend that next year. Their $20.5M might be supplemented with business NIL, but it won't come from the university.

Big budget schools (not ISU) will have university employed staff who work to match up players with willing donors for NIL. I have zero confidence Deloitte will be able to control this. Penn State will need to be well staffed to spend the $30M+ reportedly promised. They obviously have the people ready to spend the money.

This was/is a big sticking point at ISU.

I think some of these qbs are in for a rude awakening like nico iamaleava was last year.

Some of them are going to get paid very well, most will be paid in 2-4 million range, and a very unfortunate few will be left without a chair when the music stops
I saw a tweet that said something like this is a common occurrence:

Player thinks he is worth more and asks current school for a raise to $750,000
Current school counters with $300,000
Player throws a fit and hits the portal
New schools only offer $250,000
Player burned the bridge or is too cowardly to return to the old school
Player hit the portal but ends up with a worse situation

Not too many 3 star players would be in that category. The entire discussion was about them leaving for $, but I’d wager the difference won’t be so profound as what the costs might be for most ISU players.
Players that don't have a high likelihood of NFL careers probable aren't going to earn top NIL deals either. I think Rocco and Bacon both have legitimate chances to play in the NFL, but I also don't believe they would be recruited out of the portal by top programs with big NIL budgets. Unless there's a reason to believe they wouldn't be starters next year, I think they would give themselves the best chance of future success by staying at ISU.

Is there a list of names anywhere of likely incoming transfers?

The over the cap still needs to meet FMV through Deloitte. My question is since this was the House settlement, is it a felony if a player/school violates this. If so, that would help curtail it. Also, if it is above FMV, it has to be an issue with the IRS I would think.

How many of our guys are actual Penn State quality, given their $30M roster pool?

Definite:
Brahmer, Burkle, Hansen, Taylor, Williams, Neal, Konrardy

Maybe:
Rocco, Sama, Bacon, Buhr

I think our biggest risk is the general market, not players following Matt to Pedo State

Will be curious to see how many run into issues with over promising. Already issues with that in the wild west version, can't imagine that will improve in the slightly milder west version of things we're in now. More of that starts happening and that might be the best opportunity to getting the players classified as employees so more stringent protections can be put in place.

I wouldn’t put Taylor there and to Penn St, Hansen would be marginal.

Deloitte hasn't rejected a single deal based on FMV and they won't. The only deals they've rejected are ones that had incorrect or incomplete paperwork.

FMV is what someone is willing to pay.

If this is how this plays out it's going to be no different than it is now. It's just pay-for-play in a different wrapper.

When we start seeing kids with 25k instagram followers getting paid a million dollars for a single post you know that it's f**ked. Time will tell.

That's exactly what it is and exactly what it was always going to be. House is absolutely toothless.

The courts have been very, VERY clear that you can't restrict anyone's ability to earn when there's no collective bargaining and we're years, if not decades, away from that. It'll take that much time for the athletes to form a viable union so there's actually someone to collectively bargain with.

I don't disagree this appears to be the path we're going down.

What I do think people are not talking about enough is some of these huge NIL deals and how that directly relates to recruiting at a specific school.

For example, Arch Manning was going to get that Warby Parker deal just about anywhere he went. Same with a Cooper Flagg and the New Balance deal.

This, of course, comes with playing for a higher profile school and that doesn't help an ISU. But it's not like these deals are specific to one univeristy.

My guess would be to replace Taylor with Buhr in the definite category.

Really hoping they don’t want both TEs.
