‘27 OL Will Slagle Commits........

I just hope he doesn't go to Iowa. We were just starting to tip the balance with Campbell but now we are back to square 1 with Iowa as the default school.
Take breath, Roger’s was recruiting Iowa hard for several years as the SDSU coach. While he may not have been grabbing 5 stars, he was still hitting those schools for the teammates or early guys. The coaches that have been coaching for more than a year have probably dealt with him before.

Can't blame Slagle at all here. Lifelong cyclone fan who mostly only knew Campbell as ISU's coach growing up. He was looking forward to having him as a coach only to suddenly have that taken away from him

Hope he stays a cyclone. But you got to feel sorry for Slagle, too.

This situation is a unique...but kids commit to coaches! Not schools...I get it! Look at how some of us feel on this board about "saying goodbye" to Coach Campbell! He is all this kid knew at Iowa State! Give the kid some room and let him take it all in and clear his head. The kid should make the decision he feels is best for him and his family! Can't ask him to do anything else!
I basically agree with your comments however his dad played for ISU so I do think there is some draw to follow in his dad’s footsteps.

Class of 2027 was looking to be really special. Just seems like all momentum within the program is gone. Jimmy isnt going to have the luxury of a rebuilding year.
Based on one commit? Appreciate your optimism!

I guess my only question is, couldnt he get to know the new staff before he decides to decommit? I mean couldnt he give them a couple weeks at least. He is a '27 guy, it is not like he didnt have a little time to make a decision.

I get what he said and why he did it, I just think if he wanted to get to know the staff, before he decides, then couldnt he do the same before he decommits, or at least have a chance to meet them.

Yeah I thought he was 26 commit at first. So I thought it did make more sense but when I saw 27, he might as well tell the coaches he wants to talk to them after the crazy train stops and see if want to flip.

I’m guessing his emotions made his decision. Which at 17 or so years of age is quite common

He is not gone with 100% certainty. His own post on Twitter says so.

Is this a good sign? No. Does it mean he's gone for sure? No.

I think we should reserve judgment on that. I don't want to go there either, but a lot has changed the last 10 years.

Did Campbell play a big part in this? Of course. Does that all go away with him gone? I don't want to believe so.

Meh all coaches get a rebuilding yr especially with the portal.

Right move for the kid. Re-open things, let the new staff re-recruit you and keep your options open. End of the day he's a legacy and obviously an ISU fan, so Rogers and staff should have every chance to try and win him back over.

Ferentz can't coach forever and from what I can tell they don't have a guy on the staff that will take over the program. So in the next few years Iowa will be going through the same roster turnover we might be going through
