Don't mind him, he's still just mourning the Chiefs being ass this year
That was fun last night, too much Cyclone for them. The kicker will have more free time to tell ladies they can't work.

Def can't lose to Colorado here.Facts. The current CFP arrangement you just need to be a top 4 Big Ten team to make it. At ISU you have to get around all the tie breakers and then win the conference championship game.
So you're glad he's gone then? He's a good coach but not good enough to win at Penn State yet he can win at ISU of all places. I'm confused by most of these posts. This stat is kind of flawed. It's not like they had 3 guys who did 25, 15 and 20 years. JoePedo made up the majority of those years and no one was going to fire him until... well. I don't like the logic that just because they kept one guy for for 45 years doesn't mean they won't all of a sudden make rash decisions. I mean they fired Franklin mid season, who's previous three seasaons were 11-2, 10-3 and 10-3 (with a CFP appearance).
I'd say the odds are that Campbell will be dealing with an AD/fan base/donor issue that's a lot closer to Franklin's tenure than Paterno's. I'd say Pedo State is definitely a lot closer to "Win Now or be gone." program than a "Let's Keep the guy 40 years." program. Hell, Franklin got the benifit of a few growing pains just for the aftermath of the Pedo scandal. I don't think they will can him for not winning an NC, but they aren't going to keep Campbell around if he's not solidly in the play-off picture most years.
I think CMC's biggest issues are going to be his game day decisisions, clock management, etc. (Sorry, I never thought CMC was a good game day coach.), his lack of emphasis on good special teams and those "In the margins" things that seemed to cost us games. Unless things drastically change, CMC is always good for at least one or two headscratcher games a year. (See Colorado this year.)
Yes, there for over a decade, the previous three years very good years, a trip to the playoff last year, then fired mid season this year. I'd say they are trending away from "We'll give it time." The reality is, all it takes is one bad year. 8-4 isn't going to cut it at PSU. throw in a 2022 and he's definitely gone. But again, I think Franklin is the first coach they’d ever fired for performance (and Paterno was the only other coach they’d ever fired fired).
Franklin was there for over a decade.
Woah...a couple of things here before you go off half-cocked...My good friend, a PSU alum who lives in State College, just told me one of the last questions at Campbell's PSU presser addressed the NIL rumors. Supposedly Campbell took a shot at JP saying how he and staff had to create their own NIL and do everything themselves. So it appears some of those rumors running around are based in fact..
JP needs to get his **** together regarding NIL.
He's not getting fired for going 8-4 one year there. He could go 8-4 2 years in a row and they still wouldn't fire him. Its nothing like the expectations at Ohio State or any of the other top schools. As long as he wins 10-11 games normally and wins some big games he'll keep his job. Franklin got fired because he had an atrocious record against top 10 teams. Campbell was decent in them in Ames.Yes, there for over a decade, the previous three years very good years, a trip to the playoff last year, then fired mid season this year. I'd say they are trending away from "We'll give it time." The reality is, all it takes is one bad year. 8-4 isn't going to cut it at PSU. throw in a 2022 and he's definitely gone.
If I had to guess I’d say you’re right.Yes, there for over a decade, the previous three years very good years, a trip to the playoff last year, then fired mid season this year. ...no one walks out of that party sober for sure.Love Matt. Greatest coach in ISU history (and by far).
Should have had a CycloneFanatic watch party and created a "Hi Bob" type drinking game for every time Matt said:
- Process
- Best Version of Yourself
- Win in the Margins
- Attention to Details
- Craft
- Etc.
Follow the thread and you wouldn't be confused. So you're glad he's gone then? He's a good coach but not good enough to win at Penn State yet he can win at ISU of all places. I'm confused by most of these posts.
Unless you're the DD....no one walks out of that party sober for sure.
Why do people think coaches care about the "leash" schools give them? These are ego driven maniacs who like challenges. Guys who are dent in their ability don't worry about getting fired. They can always get jobs at places like Iowa State if things don't work out.Follow the thread and you wouldn't be confused.
My initial post that started this was to someone saying PSU has only had 3 coaches in the previous 60 years and that proves they are not quick to fire. I say that is a flawed stat because one of those coaches held that position for 45 years. Again, it's not like they had coaches who did 25 years, 15 years and 20 years to make the 60. They had one guy do 45, one guy do 2 and another do 11, filled in the other few years with interims. And they guy they just fired mid season took them to the playoff last year. If CMC took ISU to the playoffs, he wouldn't be fired mid-season the next year for a bad start. And he shouldn't be fired. Hell, he made it through 2022.
No, I'm not glad he's gone. What I'm saying is he had a lot longer leash at ISU than he he'll have at PSU, he's not going to get 10 years to bring them a Big 10 championship and a National Championship. He got us close, but we never were big 12 champs. He's not going to get away with ****** Special Teams play year after year and it costing him games like he did at ISU. Just because it took PSU a child rape scandal to get rid of Paterno, doesn't mean CMC will get the stick around for 15 years going 8-4.
And yes, I do think CMCs closer to a consisten 8-4 coach than he is a 10-2 coach. Even at PSU. I think that's awesome at ISU and I wish he was still here. I don't think PSU fans feel the same way.
Places like Penn State have enough depth so that injuries don't derail a season like that. Our margin of error is much smaller when it comes to injuries.Well college athletics has changed in 60 years, Franklin clearly lost the team in 2025, but he had a lot of injuries. What if Campbell loses his whole secondary to injuries in 2 years and they go 8-4, would Penn State be happy with that?
Why do people continue arguements with a tangent topic after someone answers their previous question? Why do people think coaches care about the "leash" schools give them? These are ego driven maniacs who like challenges. Guys who are dent in their ability don't worry about getting fired. They can always get jobs at places like Iowa State if things don't work out.
I would put bets on it that Matt is not the coach in 5 years.
Notre Dame is still paying Charlie Weiss, right?I think he gets a pass for 2 seasons, but will need to make the CFP in year 3 or the seat will start getting warm. Year 4 is make or break.
If he gets fired after year 4 or 5, will PSU be writing checks to Franklin and Campbell at the same time?
H
There's usually 8 easy wins on a big 10 schedule so he just needs to win 1 or 2 harder games a year. Something he nearly always did here. Probably will be ok.He could have had a lifetime contract at ISU. If he "only" goes 8-4 after year 2 or 3 they will fire him. I hope he does well but expectations at PSU are much higher than in Ames.
I also think the defense (Heacock) kept us in countless games. Too bad he's leaving.
