Coach Rogers Introductory Press Conference

He does give me a Campbell/TJ vibe in his focus on details. His answers have depth in that regard.
I want to expand on this as I think it is really important.

Every coach works long hours. Every coach works really hard. That's just the profession.

Not every coach has a detailed plan for everything: This is what we are going to do every day, this is how we are going to do it, this is why we do it, here is how all that is interconnected with everything else, and we are going to adhere to that plan every single day.

This, IMO, is what separates Coach Campbell and TJ from the average coaches. Sure, if you've heard one or two interviews or press conferences from them, you've basically heard them all, but it freaking works.

Rogers sounds like that kind of guy, and if he is has that level of respect from TJ, that goes quite a ways to proving that he is in my book.

Matches the results at WSU last season -- their defense wasn't bad, pretty good even. Their offense...definitely not good.
I think that is why he didn't elaborate on it. It's TBD as he builds a new staff on that side.

Giving up 3rd and long is a storied pastime for ISU football and if it continues I hope people come atound to it not just being scheme.

That said I hope a stingy/'cagey' defense is a foundation for Rogers.
F Tomlin-led Steelers have done it his whole tenure. We ain't alone

Will be interested to see what the next scheme is defensively. Sounded to me like trying to disguise and push the opposing offense more instead of sit back and wait for them to make mistakes. Either can work, but our roster now is definitely catered toward the latter. If you want to push and force the issue of mistakes, you need tighter/riskier coverage, you need more pass rush and more blitzers, etc. I would expect to see an overhaul of LB/DL rooms in particular if this is the case. The DB room for the most part is probably fine to fit either scenario, depending on who all comes back of course, but that front six group is not set up now to be pressure-oriented.

As for us fans, if they go this way, it'll look very different to us. We'll have to accept trading big plays for big play busts at times -- that's football in this scheme type. Get some of that watching the Vikings D in recent years -- super heavy on big plays and forcing issues, lots of exotic D looks and pressures, but also leads to occasional busted plays and mistakes even at the NFL level.
Agreed. We are going to have to get the horses to play a 4-man front. It may sound promising to many, but won't be without the proper pieces. He may have addressed that a bit in disguising things. Will be interesting to see the roster, recruiting and results the next few years.

I love and appreciate what Heacock did for us at ISU, but I can't tell you how excited I was to hear the words "4 man front" and "agressive and attacking" on defense.
Yes, I think Heacock did what he had to do with the pieces he had. Very successful in working with "what you got." Getting consistent Big 12 defensive linemen has historically been a struggle here. It will be interesting now with NIL to see how that changes what we can do and who we can get, and if we can get enough talent to play the way the new program wants to play.

Wrestling getting 1/5 the men’s basketball budget seems a little bit outrageously ******* moronic.
Wrestling raises their own money though, correct? My understanding is that whatever they get they earn and the only way it adversely affects the other teams is if we get to the limit which prevents others from getting a bigger piece of the pie. I don't thing we are reaching the limit with the numbers JP stated so it is not hurting the other programs I believe.

Ahh, that’s different. Shocking wrestling can raise that much, but fine as long as there is still space under the cap as you said.

What about women’s basketball? Are they raising their own funds too?

Interesting on the buyout being paid by coach. Is that common? So he's essentially giving up over a year of salary over the term of the deal?
