Coach Rogers Introductory Press Conference

Will be interested to see what the next scheme is defensively. Sounded to me like trying to disguise and push the opposing offense more instead of sit back and wait for them to make mistakes. Either can work, but our roster now is definitely catered toward the latter. If you want to push and force the issue of mistakes, you need tighter/riskier coverage, you need more pass rush and more blitzers, etc. I would expect to see an overhaul of LB/DL rooms in particular if this is the case. The DB room for the most part is probably fine to fit either scenario, depending on who all comes back of course, but that front six group is not set up now to be pressure-oriented.

As for us fans, if they go this way, it'll look very different to us. We'll have to accept trading big plays for big play busts at times -- that's football in this scheme type. Get some of that watching the Vikings D in recent years -- super heavy on big plays and forcing issues, lots of exotic D looks and pressures, but also leads to occasional busted plays and mistakes even at the NFL level.

He basically said we have too many Dbacks and not enough Dline. So if Dbacks leave he will probably replace with Dline.

Lots of questions, he seems to be working through them well. Jumped in where he was answering the question about Stiglmeyer, you could tell connections mean a lot to him.

Wish him the best and be cheering for them in the Fall.

Coach John Stiegelemeier was the perfect mentor for him. Old school coach & the Jackrabbits loved him. That was a pretty emotional question for Rogers & you could tell it was tough for him to answer. I was impressed with his humbleness.

17 years ago, John Stiegelmeier changed Jimmy Rogers' life with four words.

"Rogers, who was introduced as South Dakota State's 21st head football coach Friday, sat in Stiegelmeier's office on his visit with the Jackrabbits in 2006. "Short, slow, one of the best football players you'll ever (see)," Stiegelmeier said of a 17-year-old Rogers Friday. "Are those synonymous?" Back then, coaches around the country didn't see it that way. Rogers wasn't recruited. And South Dakota State, he said, wasn't a dream. But there was SDSU, there was Stiegelmeier sitting across the table to offer the only words he needed to hear. "I believe in you".

Generally these introduction press conferences don’t mean a whole lot. The biggest takeaway is their confidence.

I remember Prohm’s press conference was a disaster. He was clearly nervous and the job seemed to be way above him.

Rogers has confidence and seems to have skills to be a great leader. So he is off to a good start. That’s really all I can take away from these press conferences.

Pollard is far from perfect and I've had my gripes about decisions being made that I disagree with (student section being moved for one) but my goodness people he hasn't committed capital murder.

Whatever your opinion on him is with how NIL is being handled, I don't think there was any way that Matt was spending his ENTIRE career here. And ESPECIALLY in the current landscape.

Penn State has always had more resources, money, and history than us. And Matt shied away from numerous job opportunities in the past. I'm bummed too...Matt was the coach while I was at Iowa State and my favorite memories from college were thanks to him and the fun football teams he coached.

Again, JP is not perfect. He's done great things and some questionable things for Iowa State but some of you need to be more realistic with Iowa State's place in college football.
I’d venture to guess Campbell won’t spend the rest of his career at PSU. And Roger’s won’t spend the rest of his career here. And Kiffin won’t spend the rest of his career at LSU or DeBoer at Bama, etc. etc.

The only coach I’m confident will retire at their current job right now is Ferentz honestly.
