No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

Probably part bitterness over the last few days, but knowing the reality of ISU financials, i’d almost take being a bad football program, and sink everything into basketball. I love NFL, and hate NBA anyway, so would work for me

In this climate, I feel the B12 has been very short-sighted in not seeing and planning for situations like this. Legally, I believe ISU can fight the fine. But, the repercussions from doing so may be bad. In turn, I believe the B12 should back the school and sue the school taking the coach(es) for damages. Because 'damages' are measurable and are a legal basis for lawsuits.

The problem is that you need football revenue to be solid to have money to sink into basketball.

If the players voted no then that’s the way it should be. I doubt we would have enough players to play anyways. If 20-25 players go into the portal then obviously you can’t field a team.

Team leadership not as strong as I thought. Strong leadership looks out for the next group and not pouring and only caring about themselves. Taking the bowl means time for the next team to get some practices and reps. Like I said in another, I have a feeling that the coaches were pushing this also.

Who knows how the voting went. Yes, no, abstain. You need a majority with positive feedback. I don't want some dude who's leaving to vote yes.

The fact that Matt's contract only had a $2 million buyout in it is on Matt... not JP. Matt wanted it that low, so another school would come in and get him out of here.

Was JP supposed to demand it be way higher... and then Matt walks?
Yes. The buyout number was way to low for a P4 coach who just signed a new contract extension. Much lower level Washington State understood the buyout market better than ISU.

While I think this is true, I don’t necessarily disagree with Pollard’s judgment that Mouser may not be ready to be a head coach, even if the players want him.

I like Mouser, but the history of promoting the popular assistant isn’t always a smashing success. Good short term fix, but can go off the rails once the program is”theirs.”
Larry Coker at UM is the best example.

He was not in the meeting. It was the old coaches and the player leadership that appears to be leaving to Penn St. you think those guys are going to say we should play a bowl game which would make them uncomfortable and make them stick around longer?
I get it....just makes my stomach turn. But again, those kids came because of these coaches

Truly wonder though if Mouse was hired how many would had stayed.

As someone said in another thread, seeing Brahmer say "Penn State" on Monday Night football intros will sting.

That's not what you were saying though.

What was I saying?

I was hoping our new coach would be able to convince the players that (for the moment) are on his actual team to consider playing in a bowl game.

I don't think NOT playing in the game is a huge deal, but I do think it is concerning.

It’s kind of interesting that both teams who declined are former Pop Tarts Bowls champions. If you aren’t going to play again in the most elite (and fun) bowl game, why bother?

This sport is stupid. We're a pro sport now right? The players want to be paid so this is a pro sport. Ok well you can't just leave with a game to be played even if your coach leaves. If you do you're breaking a contract. That's what a real sport would do anyways.

Not a good sign.
@CyDude16 you "dumbed" this post. I get there's a lot of passion surrounding Campbell's departure. Here's my thought process...

I get that the players have a lot of different reasons why they wouldn't want to play but considering college football players have a enthusiasm for the game, I can't think of any positive reasons (from an ISU perspective) why they wouldn't want to play one more game.

I'm not a doom and gloomer. I'm open to alternative interpreptations.

Do we get some NIL money back from each player and Salary back from each coach that quit on Iowa State. That is what this is, players and coaches who took money to play football games now refusing to coach or play the football game.

This is bull ****.

My donation and tickets prices better not increase next year. Get's harder and harder to justify my families dollars to coaches and players who do not really give a **** about the fans or school for that matter.

End rant.
This 100%. The coaches all left, players don’t want to play. Give back your NIL money clean out your locker and get off campus by 5 and dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
