I honestly don't have words...

Rancik missed a lot of games in 1999-2000 and wasn't super-effective when he did play. He was a dog the next year though.

Fizer was planning on coming back his senior year until his mom lost her house. The 2000-01 team + Marcus would have been something to see.

Mike Nurse was hit the year before. He was healthy for the year we lost to Drake. I was at that Drake game, Horton and Tinsely had really bad games. I think the player we didn't have was Martin Rancik. He wasn't a starter. Fizer, S. Johnson, Tinsely, Nurse, and Horton were the starters. Hockens was the guard back up and Shirley and Rancik backed up the front line. Both Shirely and Rancik had injuries that year.

I just remember a blurb about how Larry told Tinsley it would be the hardest game of his life just due to the weird atmosphere etc. and things just didn't go well.

A prime example of the lesson to not take one early game as the definition of the season.

Our baseline defense is basically optimized wreak havoc on teams that rely on a guard as their best player.
Also, more so than Purdue, they have no answer for Jefferson and Milan, and Stirtz can’t foul
Our ability to switch on all screens is really frustrating teams. Purdue couldn’t get anything out of their pick and roll sets to their bigs. They had no answer.

That’s the biggest difference. We are so much better defensively. We have the team who can switch and trap again like we did in the early TJ years… but this team is excellent on offense too.

The length and speed of someone like Toure also allows for recovery too which has been missing.

There's an interesting list of things that the staff has added about every year to improve things with the defensive intensity being the foundation.

That's how you basketball program.

It will be interesting to see how many teams we jump in the rankings. We should be ahead of all the one loss teams, but how will they rank us versus the other undefeated teams.
Im going to guess ISU will get bumped to #4 or maybe #5.

The best thing about CyHawk this year is that Hassel knows he will only be able to do low level trolling like this before the game. I may have to listen to Two Guys for a change to see what kind of weak sauce he's got.

Every piece fits. Need defensive intensity and try to get the lid off the basket? Bring in Batemon. Need a change of pace and someone to draw a few fouls? Bring in Nelson.

Nelson might have won the game yesterday. We were down five, looked stagnant and were turning the ball over a lot. Brought in Nelson and drew a foul, made a layup and then drew another foul. Had he not gone into beast mode, Purdue maybe stretches it out to double figures.

Painter talked about Nelson in the post game glowingly.

Coaches know this stuff snd how important it is and the purpose of him being a 'black hole' (he isn't, he just knows he can get to the hoop which is likely his jmain ob) is vital when the opponent has things going a bit.

I was high on Killyan last year and knew he'd play this year but it's what he's learned from Tamin in his short time at ISU that has him playing at this level cause Tamin has improved immensely since his freshman year. The on ball pressure is Killyan's but the offensive side he's really learned a thing or 2. When to attack and when not to, the drifting into a passing lane for a 3, where you can drive and dish. And Killyan has been an outstanding learner.
What I've noticed more than ever, were the smarts to dribble back out of a double-team. Lipsey did that several times yesterday, which caused the double-team to fracture. I love the smarts. Jefferson needs to back out of those too.

Jefferson is trying to draw the double team a lot. That's why he trys to back a guy down from the outside. He just waiting for that double cause he's looking for the open guy. Purdue had a plan for him and they executed it pretty decent.

If I had a vote it would for Arizona. Their resume is more impressive.

My feeling:
1. Michigan
2. Arizona
3. Duke
4, Iowa State
5. UCONN
6. Gonzaga
7. MSU
8. BYu
9. Louisville

Beyond that, everyone has shown major flaws that I don’t see them correcting as the season wears on.

seven of the past eight national champions were ranked and undefeated during the month of November. If that trend holds true this season, odds are one of the schools in the top four of the Top 25 And 1 right now will win the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

So who's it gonna be?

Arizona? Michigan? Duke? Iowa State?
