Matt Campbell to Penn State??

I wonder if it’s possible he has other family not in Iowa. That’d be nuts.

Of course it is possible. And being the head coach at Penn State doesn't matter.

Again, this is a nice story for Pollard to tell to make us feel better about things. But if Campbell wanted to be the coach here he would be despite whatever sick relative there is.

Remember when you had a psychotic meltdown about Hoiberg leaving? Remember when you had another meltdown, but not psychotic, when Prohm was fired? How about you shut the **** up?

No, it sounds like Pollard is acting like he wanted to go 'home'. Iowa WAS home. He wanted out of Iowa State.
I was born in Ames and lived in Central Iowa until I was 32. I've lived in western WA now for 13 years. But all of our extended family is still "back home" in Iowa. And we have aging parents and have wondered ourselves if/when we'll need to address that. Apparently I'm obligated to drag my parents and/or in-laws out here because Iowa isnt "home" anymore? Or are social norms different for college football coaches?

ETA: And my son is enrolled at Drake, even though my kids have basically only ever known WA. But if we moved to KC/MPLS/CHI, proximity to family isnt at least part of that decision?

Central PA is not Ohio. Let's not pretend he's going to be next door to anyone.

Again, I just don't think we should lie about things. He wanted to leave. That's what it is. But he's still hours away from the daughter in DC in college and hours away from the sick parents.

yep... CMC sees the writing on the wall for college football.... and is getting out and abandoning ship, and his players, as fast as he can! So... it's not all about the players like Matt always said it was now is it? Nope... it's about himself it appears.
So you're saying that if you got a job offer that doubled your salary, you would turn it down?

JP himself already said Matt Campbell owes Iowa State nothing. JP accepted this is part of the business. He wanted to leave ISU - he left ISU in a much better shape than when he arrived.

Not going to lie, I feel pretty bad for CW that the day his book arrives from the publisher, loaded with Matt Campbell content, Matt leaves Ames for Penn State.

They also played North Texas, Virginia, Ole Miss, James Madison. Derp.

And lost by to north Texas. He’ll probably be great. But no one but us was looking to hire him.

I respect his opinion, but let's check and see what kind of shape we're in 30 days from now before we make any judgements.

Building something is great, but what if you burn it to the ******* ground on the way out?

Yes, he wanted to leave. Nobody is arguing that. But you're saying he wanted to leave because Pollard is bad at his job. Which is demonstrably false.

Does every decision Pollard makes work out? No! But his decisions at the time appear to be right, meaning his decision-making process is good and that's all you can ask. Sure, its possible all of our teams have been operating near historic highs over the past 10 years just due to dumb luck. OR, Pollard might be a straight shooter who is good at his job.

Blum said this was preventable. I’m not sure what else you want.

I've lived in Central IA since I was 18, but Camanche in eastern Iowa is still home.
Yeah home is usually where you grow up. My home town growing up will always be my home town.

It gets more tricky if you moved around a lot growing up. But for most people I think they always feel where they grew up, where their parents live etc is home.

Feel for CW. Whenever a friend moves across the country it's hard to keep the connection. Losing multiple friends at once is really rough. Feel bad for him as a person.

As a reporter hopefully this will make him better in the long run. If the coaches aren't his friends maybe he doesn't just lob softballs up at them.

jsb, cat stevens, and macloney were absolutely LIVID that we would even consider firing Prohm and even more mad when TJ was announced as the new coach.

Blum insinuated that TJ is also sick of pollard. And insiders at 247 said the same thing. CW will probably quit if TJ leaves.
