BREAKING: Matt Campbell, Penn State in final stages

1000% agree. If he wants the job he is going to have a lot to deal with that he doesn't have to right now.

And I look forward to that. The money and NIL and probable playoff run will ease things a lot, but the daily grind will be annoying.

One of them was Joe Pa.

They wanted to fire Bill O’Brien after two years.

Franklin had a leash because of recruiting and his occasional 11 win season but there was a lot of discontent in the fan base.

Not our problem, it is CMC's. Truly, I wish him well. He's no dummy, the contract will be to his liking imho. Great place to be if you're aiming at a top-echelon, Blue Blood football job.

He won’t unfortunately.

Franklin literally just won 11, 10, and 13 games the last three seasons.

Campbell will beat Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon more often...meaning he'll at least beat them one time it matters. The bar is low because Penn State hasn't beaten the big dogs in a loooooong time.

He'll also probably be worse at taking care of the Marylands and Iowas than Franklin was because Franklin was incredibly reliable there.

I agree he will win big games more often, based on the fact that he beat better Teams than ISU consistently here

I don't understand why he will do worse than Franklin against the bottom half of Big10. PSU is not like ISU, they have more talent than those Teams. At ISU he has not had better recruits vs. his competition

We played 10 P4 teams this year. Our worst two games were against the worst two. It wasn't just this year, it was pretty consistent.

Franklin was way better at blasting teams he should blast. It's maybe my only critique of Campbell, I was overall not a "hater" and still am not.

You should probably wait a couple weeks before you make that statement
What happens after Campbell leaves is not his doing. It's a function of the current structure of college football with the portal and NIL.

Campbell would leave ISU in a much better place than when he was hired. He's the first ISU football coach since Earle Bruce (nearly 50 years) that didn't leave the Cyclones during a down cycle.

It's just reality of coaching turnover in the current environment, any new coach is going to have to create his own program because every player is a free agent.

Understand ISU did not always win games easily, but my thinking is that will be a lot easier to do when you can over-whelm those worse teams with talent. Winning every week at ISU is much harder as you have to actually play well every week which is very hard. Bad bounces and bad calls that hurt ISU will hurt but not call Ls when PSU has much more talent at every position. PSU can play C game and beat Maryland

I'm just saying that I think Campbell is about to be at a job where all of that crap that he hates is going to be a big deal.

Maybe it really isn't a big deal to him and he was BSing everyone in Ames..........or..........enough zero's on the check make him learn to love it.

How many teams now use a long-range and a short-range kicker?

Seems like that Big 10 money could solve that problem in a similar fashion?

Think of all of the years of boys getting abused in the locker rooms by Sandusky while Joe let it happen. What a great place. They should've had their football program erased from the planet for that.
I don't really like Penn State but my gosh all the people from the Paterno/Sandusky era are long gone.

I can't be the only one holding my breath when I open this thread that I finally see the Penn State announcement---the real official one.
