BREAKING: Matt Campbell, Penn State in final stages

I don't think Campbell completely raids our roster but I'd guess Rocco is 99% gone. What loyalty does he have to Iowa State at this point? Rocco either...

1.) Follows Matt to Penn State
2.) Goes to the highest bidder to ensure he is set up financially for life.
The players who gave a home town discount last season I would think are almost certainly going to move on with Matt or get that money elsewhere this year. They did that to play for him. It's only logical.

I don't see Campbell taking anyone. Doesn't seem like that guy!

I worry more about other people coming in. Iowa could take some of our IOWA guys, and Nebraska might come after some of the Nebraska kids. Things like that, Missouri and Oklahoma could hurt us with some of the recruits.
I don’t think penn state will want our players!

Some will probably go with him, some might surprise us and stay. There are a lot of factors that go into that decision beyond just who the head coach is.

For sure some will stay. Some will go with him. And some will be tempted by the extra money other schools can offer them.

If he poaches players, lots of them, I think that would change my mind. Not "the process" I was trusting in.
Alternatively, CMC sees his obligation to the young men under his ward, not the school, and will look after what is best for them even if that means accepting a scholarship at higher rated academic institution to play football on a larger stage.

Any choice can be morally superior if you need it to be.

Unfortunately this is the lived reality of CFB , even if your coach isn't moving on. The portal giveth and the portal taketh away.

That's a good, general assessment.

It was the case pre-NIL and the "new era." (Perhaps not for same reason(s)).

Who stays and who leaves isn't easy to predict 100%, although some seem "more likely" to depart.

They signed two kids in this class. Lots of roster room and money to supplement what they do have. Hope we don’t lose our top seniors to big Happy Valley NIL contracts.
PSU was loaded this year, all he had to do is keep most of the current roster, back fill this years recruits with NIL and recruits the following year and they will be fine.

I don't like it at all, but the whole college game now is, "Show me the money."

I remember hearing Nick Saban say that one of the reasons he quit was because he got tired of hearing potential recruits first question be, "How much you gonna give me?" You have NBA G-League guys leaving to go to college basketball now because the money is better. If Penn State has the booster bucks to pay more, they'll get most of the players they want. Again, I don't like it but that's how it is these days.

But will the players buy into his philosophies? As an underdog it works as motivation. As a top dog in talent will they respond the same way. It will be interesting to watch.

Yeah, friendships on the team, how they view their role for next year, comfort level with their college life, girlfriends, proximity to home, stage of their college career, it all matters and matters differently to each player. Staying wouldn't necessarily be due to loyalty to Iowa State any more than leaving would indicate disloyalty. It's just going to come down to a whole bunch of individual decisions.

Is this really where we are? Dude gave us 10 seasons of quality football, 2 CCG appearances and a Fiesta Bowl win. I'd take that over what we had basically forever before him. Sitting in the stands while Texas blasts us 55-3 is alot less fun.

AGAIN, I'm not sure why we have to be happy about the idea of our football program and therefore AD being decimated.

It's OK to be pissed today.

There will probably come a time when we won't be. But no serious program would be happy with this.

Who said anyone is happy? Thats just a pretty extreme take. We all knew he would leave some day.
