Matt Campbell to Penn State??

What pisses me off the most, is that we lowered his buyout to $2m last year.

Why in the hell did we do that? If he had a big buyout, It would not have prevented him leaving, but sure in hell would have given us a huge leg up on money for a new coach.

$2M might as well be nothing at this point.
If you're negotiating a $5 million a year contract with a coach who knows he could get $8 million on the open market, you make some concessions

I’m caught up on all CF pods and got no sense that Blum is at odds with the dept in any significant damaging way. Maybe I missed something. Just seems like an industry in transition.

Without saying what was said on a premium board, he went off a bit last night.

Yeah, we didn't recognize it at the time, but this was a pretty good sign that he was looking to move on.

I have 100% faith that Campbell will talk to the players
He probably can't really say anything until it's basically a done deal. With the internet and social media you can't keep it quiet so that the players hear it from the coach first.

As a millionaire I have no empathy for people like you;):p

Just to be clear, IMO Campbell is not moving because of money. Like I said, people tend to switch jobs for personal growth. Money can be one of those reasons.

But more likely, after 10 years he might be looking for a new challenge. The longest I was with a single employer was just under 10 years and in that span different jobs.

yep. 10 years. wants to see something new. I have no problem with it. you only get 1 go around

15-20 years ago I would be more worried but I'm not. Now with NIL it's easier to be competitive. Just need a capable coach and a NIL fund.

I wish MC would have stayed here forever but he's not Jesus Christ. There are other coaches that are capable. We just need to find one that is the right fit.

All I can say to MC is good luck. You're going to need it.

When did a buyout prevent a school from hiring a coach. Heck, what was Kiffin's buyout? Or Sumrall's.

$2M can pay a few football players to stay.

Maybe this will help with that projected budget shortfall everyone was worried about a few months ago. /s

I'm going to guess he left his job because the school or AD wouldn't buy in to the current state of big time college athletics.

Could probably add the state govt on there as well. Other states are doing what is necessary to keep their programs afloat, Iowa doesn't seem like it is, to the detriment of the economic engines that these athletics programs are. Like, there should have been a tax on sports gambling that went to the schools yesterday
