Matt Campbell to Penn State??

Terrible fit for them, this is like the Vikings panicking after their first 6 Qbs went off the board and drafting Mccarthy.

That being said, thankful for his time here and his accomplishments, but the reality is he'll likely be looking for a new job in 3-4 years, drop down to a lower level again, then turn up at another Power 4 program 5-10 years out.

I don't think he will do well at Penn State. Some of the issues he had here will be magnified 10 times over there.

The upgrade in talent and $$ can remedy some, but I'm curious what happens with his DC. It doesn't seem like Heacock is in it for the long haul anymore.

Can't blame CMC for going to Penn St. Let's be real, Penn State versus Iowa State, no comparison - more history, more resources, more recruiting pool, more media money, more NIL. He was great for Iowa State, stayed longer than I thought actually with his success. Wish him well.

2028 Nebraska plays Penn State. Who do you want to win?

I see this a lot like Hoiberg, I don't have any hate for Nebraska basketball because Iowa State, in the end, ended up with a better coach.

The team Fred left for had absolutely no negative connection with ISU, he might as well have been leaving to be in a different field of work. Then when he came back it was to the historically worst basketball program in US history and like you said we had a very good and probably better coach. So pain free in hindsight.

Going to Big Ten/SEC football while ISU is in its best spot ever competitively...that's actively the forc trying (successfully) most to minimize ISU/Big 12 football.

I don't blame Matt directly if this happens, but it kind of sucks for that reason.

If this is some situation where Penn State is just barely able to dislodge CMC, it probably wouldn't have happened without the latest biggest and most absurd round of realignment.

How is Campbell being disloyal?

As an ISU grad and being an alumni is with me for a lifetime. 100x more of an affinity than my graduate degree.

But for Campbell, ISU is a job. Most of us have moved on to take jobs that provide personal growth- whether it be bigger budget, hot industry or more financial security.

It's wrong minded to feel Campbell is being disloyal by job hopping. I'm sure Iowa State and Ames will always be a special place for his family.
He gave us 10 years of the best football in our history, and hopefully established a program here that can be replicated by the next guy. I get it, Penn State is the kind of job that's the pinnacle of the sport as a coach. We can't compete with the state university in a state with that many resources and fans. Just demographics wise.

I like to think hes the kind of guy who won't leave the cupboard completely bare... fck this sucks man.
