***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

The target on his back will be huge.

Minimum he’ll have to make the playoff within his first 2-3 years. That might buy him time to win a national title in 5-6 years.

Not a chance he makes it through a 6th season without a title if it doesn’t look like he is on track to win it all that year.
The SEC - where all the children are above average.

All the hate Kiffin is getting is certainly justified. He brings it on himself and honestly, I think Lane likes that and it's generally all intentional.

That said, I really don't get why so many people think it's going to flame out at LSU. If you're going to judge his coaching ability based on 2007-13 Lane Kiffin, you're an idiot. He's done incredible things since going to Alabama and coaching under Saban. Winning 11 games twice at Florida Atlantic and then doing what he's done at Ole Miss is wildly impressive in reality.

Love him or hate him, it's damn near a guarantee that he'll have a great offense given his track record and bringing his OC with him. He's also reportedly going to keep hold of Blake Baker who is one of the best DC's in the game. LSU won 7 games this year purely on the back of an elite defense despite one of the worst offenses going. They'll have as much talent, resources, etc. as anyone and he's far more likely to succeed in a big way immediately.

Now, if you're going to evaluating him on National Championship or bust out of the gates then sure that's a tough ask.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what LSU is evaluating him on. He has about 3 seasons or so to win a title.

The major advantage he has at LSU is that they have a near monopoly on the talent that the state of Louisiana produces. High school kids want to play for LSU. LSU’s biggest disadvantage is it’s a dysfunctional state and full of land mines.

Does Ryan Silverfield have second thoughts about taking the Arkansas job when he has to do the pig suey thing at his opening press conference?

I’ve been getting fed some of the Arkansas social media from the algorithm and I have to laugh because they posted a clip of him signing the deal and the AD says “let’s go win a national championship”. And I know they have to say that but it’s funny that either could keep a straight face.

He hasn’t accepted accomplished more than Brian Kelly when he was hired by LSU. Kelly went 34-14 at LSU and got the boot. I think that is a very realistic outcome for Kiffin too.

What other metric could their possibly be? He's going to have to win a natty in like his first 4 years for sure.
He wants to win a title every year! But if he doesn't...so what...he gets fired eventually. Getting fired from that position might be humbling but it isn't going to change his lifestyle! He will still be able to feed and clothes his kids and grandkids (does he have any yet?). Not many coaches get to go out on their own terms...he might or might not? But if he does leave LSU on his own it might be because he had a legendary run...that will make him one of the greatest stories in college! Or...he might tire of it in Baton Rouge and jump to the NFL? I think it will be fun to watch...most of the coverage any sport gets these days is the drama in a particular sport...moreso than the games themselves!
