Beat Iowa Dual Thread

I’ll post grades/analysis later, but what an incredible day and what an incredible dual. On top of the matches, I have to say the guys have some elite walkout songs. Stevo with My Life Be Like, Evan Frost with Ice Ice Baby, Paniro with Many Men, MJ with California Love, and Rocky with the Rocky theme song. Love it

This is spot on, great songs. Also, the Boys are Back as the team entrance is also great.

Let’s give some love to Dresser too. Starting at heavy was the right call. Start and finish with our two best guys. That, plus the brick at 174 were big coaching moves.

They couldn’t see above that huge Hilton crowd and got lost.
AMES, Iowa – It was 21 years in the making, but the Cyclones have taken down the Hawkeyes on the mat. Iowa State won six matches, as the No. 6 Cyclones beat No. 3 Iowa 20-14, snapping a streak of 20-straight Hawkeye victories. The victory came in front of 12,292 fans, the 10th largest in Hilton Coliseum history.

Wow! impressive crowd and great win!

I remember a year or two ago ia used stalling as a winning tactic.

I’m surprised Hawk fans put up with that. The aggressiveness they had during their heydays under Gable is gone. They used to push us around all meet long. We had to stall to keep the matches close and try to win late. Now, they seem afraid to try anything. Just want to react only and hope that their opponent makes a mistake.

Sounds a lot like their football team, come to think of it.

I will never understand:
- 75% of the calls in a college WBB game
- Icing in Hockey
- Offsides calls in soccer
- Stall calls in wresting
Sorry for the slow reply. I can't speak for all sports you listed but:
  • Agree with you on the WBB calls; officiating has had difficulties keeping up with the progress in WBB
  • Icing in a super important call. It penalizes the team that just dumps the puck out of their own end. Poor teams will do that just to keep pressure off the goal. If you think there are too many icing calls, blame the team(s), not the refs. Icing is very easy to call objectively.
  • Stall calls in wrestling: I don't know near as much about officiating in wrestling as I think I do. So, I complain about stall calls. But I was able to talk to a friend who has college level officiating experience and he explained a number of the calls to me. Short answer on this one - I need to learn more.
But I am with you on the WBB foul calls.

Honestly, I'm not sure why Iowa puts up with the Brands guys. They haven't won a title in 10 years. It's a non revenue sport, what's the upside with employing these guys?
