Sciatica pain

Anyone been through this and have tips/help?

Been dealing with lower back pain for 2 weeks then woke up Thurs to pain through the back and down the leg.

Went to doctor. They have me on a few medications.

This really sucks as standing or sitting has me in excruciating pain.
1 word. Chiro. Doctors don’t do ****. I am nearly an expert in this area.

100%. When you think you're better, you're not. When you think you're done with PT, your not.

They need a new word or term for physical therapy that promotes it being a life long thing.

Or just name it 'life long physical therapy' or something.

I do PT for my low back/hips often and if I miss even 3-4 days of it, I can feel things start to weaken.

Also another plug for yoga being promoted for its physical benefits, not relaxation.

I've had 4 back surgeries due to a genetic condition and the only reason I'm on my feet at all, even though it's somewhat limited, is because of PT and yoga. Literally mobility saving.

Also, chiros are the most voodoo medicine ******** on earth. How come every 'treatment plan' they have is based on how much you're willing to pay them and not the 'condition' you've got? Probably coincidence.

I'm sure there's good ones that follow up with recommended PT etc. but imo chiros are like the mechanic that makes sure you'll be back in 3 months.

Yeah notice how he got imagining and an actual diagnosis?

If he went to a quack chiropractor he would be in even more pain after they ****** up his back even worse. But go ahead and put faith in a practice founded on using Scientology fake tools

Oh god I'm so scared of having back surgery.

Don't be. Even having just woke up from anesthesia I was like, "Awesome. Let's party!" because the pain was gone. This is why I say you really need to follow the post-op rules, because you will feel so much better that you'll think you're good to go with all of the relief you'll feel. But when the discharge instructions say to not pick up anything over 10# for a week DO NOT PICK UP ANYTHING OVER 10# FOR A WEEK.

Dr called this Wednesday said closest specialist is Iowa City and IC hasn't called about an appointment.

Since my appointment that got me gabapetin pain was only in calf since Wed pain is back to the whole leg despite taking GP. This pain ******* sucks.

There's a lot of chiropractor slander in here. I speak only for myself but my life is a lot better for seeing a chiro when I need one.
Nothing they do is backed by science, people feel better after going to a fortune teller also. If you feel like you need a chiro just go to PT and get some actual help.

If you feel better then great but that doesn’t mean it’s actually helping and it can cause an insane amount of harm. People also freqnetiy feel better taking placebos too

You need to be proactive on this and call yourself and be advocating. Have you conveyed this new pain level with your physician and talked about the test results from your MRI because you need to be on an anti inflammatory weeks ago and I have yet to see you prescribed one or have you said you have taken one in our side conversations.

I would normally just message you privately as we have been but while your scans don’t indicate an immediate emergency this is something that will not get better without a treatment plan. I’m not saying to badger your medical team but they usually have plenty of ways to communicate to get things moving. I’m assuming a neurosurgeon but what specialist are they referring you to?

Rulzzz, I’m not sure what specialist your physician is wanting you to see.

I will share with you that my father has had two partial discectomies in the last 25 years by a neurosurgeon in DSM. I think he was out Mercy but maybe it was Methodist. I don’t keep his surgeons straight.

Feel free to reply or DM me if you want additional information. I will gather it and share w you.

You must think your posts about chiro's are one large step for man and one giant leap for mankind. Wow. "If you feel better then great but that doesn't mean it's actually helping and it can cause an insane amount of harm"? Like that never happens with "specialists". Something about malpractice insurance.

Give it a rest champ. The human race will survive with or without chiro's, fortune tellers, placebo's and you.

A lot to unpack here as there usually is for your grievence-heavy posts, but for starters, it's a species.

Sparty’s information is as bad as his football team. And this is not a debate. On either.

@CycloneRulzzz

I told you what the MRI would say…except the level of L3-4 instead of L4-5.

The biggest issue is the extrusion.

The disc is like a jelly donut.

When the jelly substance bulges but doesn’t hurt the donut. That’s a Disc Bulge.

When the jelly substance bulges and tears into the donut. That’s a protrusion.

When the jelly substance bulges and tears through the donut and hangs outside, or in your case, migrates up (cranial) that’s an extrusion.

There’s only so much room for the nerve roots to exit the spinal cord and exit the spinal column through the foramen (hole created by the vertebrae)

The protrusion and especially the extrusion will most certainly press directly on the nerve root. Causing your symptoms. Also, the tearing of the outside of the disc causes pain and inflammation.

there are treatment protocols on all sides that are effective. The job is to decompress the disc and nerve root compression. This part is non-negotiable for your symptom relief.

Spine surgeons will Rx physical therapy first. Maybe a round of 1-3 steroid injections. There are outpatient procedures for minimally invasive discectomy. More invasive would be discectomy with spinal fusion.

The right chiro or even some PT would use a lumbar disc decompression machine or a Cox Flexion distraction machine. Both are very effective in taking pressure off the disc and reducing nerve root compression

hope this info helps!

Not sure what you’re saying I said wrong as I didn’t, but feel free to let me know.

Also the jelly donut is a great analogy.

Man, you are the biggest douche on this board.

Not even sure why you’re here. You just like to hear yourself talk. You argue with everyone thinking you’re the smartest in the room. You’re not.

Hope the OP is feeling better.

Sciatica is a tough case. Seen a bunch of it. I’ve helped a lot of people with it and some I have not so I’ll refer out. The ones I can’t are typically dealing with a ton of degeneration.

The one common denominator is you can’t sit on your butt all day.

I can assure you I’ve dealt with more sciatica than ******* sparty has.

Your statements are ignorant and without merit.

end of story.

Calling me ignorant for calling out the quackery that is chiropractic “care” says far more about you then it does about me my man.

But go ahead if you want to defend the field that was started by a guy who received the idea for Chiro from a ghost in a series of spiritual visions then go ahead.

I’ll keep practicing science based medicine and actually helping people.
