Strange timing being right on the heels of the tour cancellation/assault/arrest fiasco a couple weeks ago.
Todd's one of those you always knew would go out early, after they came out with the news of the pneumonia on Friday, I figured it was coming, but damn im sad. Play a Train Song is tied with Windfall by Son Volt as my favorite song.
If you haven't read Todd's book, you should buy it today.

Otis Gibb put out a video on youtube about the situation. Him and Todd were very close as they toured together quite a bit. It's a good watch and sheds some light on what happened. Todd was truly an American roots artist who really didn't care about fame or fortune just the music.
I knew of him but have never listened much unfortunately...sounds like the incident involved some drunkenness or other issues...had he had issues with substance abuse?
I put Justin Townes Earle in this category and his passing was sad but not at all surprising, especially the way he looked/sounded in his last live footage.
