I have never understood what the point of keeping Mikolas around the past 2 years, he’s throwing BP out there. Fedde can’t get the ball by anybody and doesn’t throw strikes that qualify as BP. Donovan, Burleson, Wynn and Contreras are the core. If ownership wants to make a statement to the young players and try to take a Wildcard shot, bring up McGreevy and try to package Fedde with a player that actually has trade value for a starter. I don’t think Mikolas has trade value. Why sign Hampton, do we have no MLB talent in Triple A?

They’ve given Pallante and Libby the runway they were promoting for younger players. It’s time for McGreevy to get his overdue runway.
It needs to be done but last I checked they still have the same management and owners. So you are basically pissing up a pole. Good luck.
Mikolas is example #1 of a sunk cost fallacy. Ownership is too proud to admit that it was a terrible extension given out. Hampson is the 26th man and I get he provided infield and outfield depth. But he can’t be starting 3 days a week. If Marmol is gonna do that then it has to be somebody better. They have Prieto, a versatile infielder and Church and glove first OF who’s having a great season at the plate across AA and AAA. They have better options and I don’t know why they keep trotting out these crap 26th men 3 times a week
I’ll probably have this statement revisited if the Cards turn it around this year but I can’t remember when they’ve not been competitive. Tonight isn’t a rarity, they’ve had other days like this. If Mozeliak had any honor, he’d quietly step down during the All-Star break and let the new guy deal with the corpse.
I posted this earlier in the thread and it's continued to be true. I have paid basically zero attention to the Cards this year. I think we caught one or two innings on ESPN one night in May. Otherwise, I haven't watched anything on TV nor have I watched any highlights online.
My stepdad is a huge baseball fan. It's how we bonded when I was growing up. I talk to him every week and he says "how are the Cards doing?" And I have to tell him "I'm not joking when I say I have no idea. They could be 50-0 or 0-50 and I wouldn't have a clue. I can't name 6 players on the roster if I had to. I have no idea if they're in first or last place."
I'm pretty much checked out as an MLB fan. I'd rather focus on football and college basketball. Baseball has lost me. (end rant)

Should be an interesting offseason (anything is compared to last year). Am I the only one thinking 2026 could be a solid season with a couple good trades? I'm going to hate seeing Donovan go but I think you have to move him if you could get a starter. A couple moves that make some sense to me would be Donovan to KC for Kris Bubic and a prospect (would that be enough??) And then Nootbaar and Arenado (probably have to eat some salary or include someone else instead of Arenado) to Seattle for Bryce Miller. I'd be nevous on Bubic's ability to stay healthy but the talent is there.
You could then have a rotation of Gray - Bubic - Miller - Liberatore - McGreevy with Mathews hopefully ready to go soon. Add a reliever in FA to go with O'Brien, Svanson, and Romero. And then you have a lineup based around Wetherholt - Herrera - Burleson - Contreras. That's a pretty young squad with some good upside in a division that could see the Cubs lose some talent and the Brewers move off of Peralta. To me that would be competitive as long as Wetherholt is not a complete bust. But perhaps I'm too optimistic. And perhaps that's a half measure and we'd rather take back younger talent than Bubic and Miller. Either way, I'm intrigued to see how it shakes out.

They badly need to get cost controlled starting pitching. They had a lot of bad lucky when it came to SP depth last year with Hjerpe, Roby, and Robberse all losing last year and Roby missing all next year too. That was probably 3 of your top 4 in Memphis.
I saw a couple rumors today that the Royals were in on Donny in exchange for Bubic and the Guardians were in on him. I don’t think Arenado and Noot would get it over the line for Miller, no matter how much money they eat and they’ll need to eat the majority of it wherever he goes.
I doubt Gray is here next year too. He’s gonna have a long list of suitors and can fetch a nice return. And I know Contreras says he wants to stay but he’d get a nice return as well. A lot of options on the table and it’s time to start clearing the way for some younger position players.
They have a plethora of catchers they can use as pieces as well in trades. One of Pages or Crooks needs to be shipped off this offseason. Herrera is pretty close to untouchable to me and Bernal is set to be in Memphis next year so he’ll be ready in a year or so. They don’t need 5 catchers on the 40 man roster so deal from a position of strength while you go it.

It's true, been in the news a lot over the past few days. St. Louis really did not have much choice in the matter, as the company they were with last year is in bankruptcy and MLB is trying to find a home for all the teams. I would guess that after a year or so, another group will step up to show the games. It has not been announced where the games will be shown for the teams that are making this move.
As far as I'm concerned, they're doing all they can to lose fans. Trading away all their best players. (Probably) making TV access pay per view. Firing successful managers (Schildt) for no discernible reason.
You can purchase the MLB package to watch them for $99 for the year, or they will be on cable and satellite, not sure if they will be on Direct TV like in the past or not.
Really I am glad that they have made the decision to rebuild and are going all in on it this year, instead of messing around like they did last season, and kept the few better players around. It's better to suck for a couple of years and rebuild the farm system, which is currently ranked in the top 5 of all of MLB, then finishing fourth with no hope for the future. Getting rid of Schildt was a head scratcher, but what is coming out of him getting let go by the Padries clears it up a little more. Sounds like the guy was an ass to the other coaches and not a fun guy to be around.

The TV deal had nothing to do with the organization. There’s a lot of teams in the same boat last year and this year. Did you not see the Schildt stuff that came out when he “retired” from the Padres?
They needed to do it. It was about 3-4 years overdue. They’d been lapped when it came to scouting and development when they were once the leaders. Being stuck in the middle is no place to be for any sports organization. Had to pick a direction
The ownership group has been cheap for years, when they are bringing in 3 million fans year after year, they were just putting that money in their pocket or using it to build Ball Park Village parts one and two, to further enrich themselves. At the end they were scrapping by in the minors to spend money on the major league roster. We had four traveling coaches for the entire minor league system, which is why so many players got to the major league levels and were struggling with the basics of the position. They have now started to reinvest in those coaches which will help down the road, but it never should have reached that point.
