Probably and hopefully eventually, but average price is a weird way to measure. I know it's not exact but just looking at a couple EVs with ICE versions the Kona EV is $8k more, Equinox EV is $5k more, Blazer EV is $9k more.
Its not going to be as competitive in the US market as the rest of the world because there isn't as much interest, we dont allow the sale of Chinese autos, and we dont have the charging station infrastructure the rest of the world does. Eventually the US will be pulled kicking and screaming into the future though. We can't live on an island with our ICE vehicles forever.

That thing is a screaming deal. My wife and I sat down and crunched a whole bunch of numbers looking at it the other night. Having mine paid off soon is the only thing that kept me from going to get it.
Agree. I absolutely do not want a pickup, but the Lightning was such a reasonably priced unit, I seriously considered it.

I'm guessing this will be huge for non-tesla owners.
I'm just waiting for the official NACS adapter from BMW. Supposed to be out before the end of 2025, but it's getting a little late in the year. I know there are aftermarket converters out there, but I'm not terribly comfortable with using one.

They also ignored things like oil changes....which have gotten outfreakingrageous.

No kidding. Dealerships charge a ton and I don't trust the quick change places. Years back the dumb bunnies they have working there stripped the threads on my Accord oil pan. Another time they forgot to put the oil cap back on my Miata and I had hot oil sprayed all over the engine compartment. So now I suck it up and have the dealers do it at the ludicrous price they charge for 15 minutes of work. Adding insult to injury is the list of maintenance crap they seem to find for every car "Oh, and you should really flush the brake fluid, change the coolant and have us clean that fuel injection system!".

Last month I knew we had a lot of long trips planned, so I signed up for a month of FSD ($100). I'm on an older version, which is the most stable. We're going to KC on Saturday, so we'll see how it drives. We took it to Omaha a few weeks ago:

1. I put in our destination in Omaha, pulled out of my driveway, and let it take over. I had it set to "hurry" mode, and it performed perfectly on I80. I did limit its speed to 80mph, because there were times when it was going 85mph.

2. In Omaha, I found "hurry" mode to be too aggressive with lane changes. It was in the far left passing lane, it had 3/4 mile until the right exit, so I disabled it and started driving.

3. While driving around Omaha, I used "normal" and it worked good.

The only thing I didn't like was that it would turn on its turn signal for a lane change when it was beside a car, which has a tendency to freak out other drivers. It didn't change lanes until it was safe, I just didn't like when it signaled for a lane change.

I got a Lectron nacs adapter the day I got my car but it only became useful 2-3 months ago (a year later than promised) and I’m probably only going to use it for emergencies. Besides “cave” reasons I just don’t want multiple subscriptions for discount rate and ELectrify America serves 95% of my needs on road trips, any month I take a road trip the subscription saves me $20-40 and any month I don’t it costs me $7 so I just leave it on. There definitely is more charging space than needed at tesla stations in CA though, it’s obvious just driving by (saying that as a clear good thing).

The free charging near where I hike my dogs actually expanded and I’ve paid $0 for fuel since my last mountain road trip in August. I know that’s not sustainable forever if everyone has an EV but for now that’s a massive chunk of cash in my wallet when gas is about $4.80 for me. At this point a payment would need to be almost free to get me back in an ICE car just on pure economics.

A2Z is a fantastic product....its actually built better than the official one IMO. I used it for a good year before I got my adapter from Tesla/Rivian.

I know Musk is always just throwing s*** out that may not be realistic but he recently called out using electric cars as supplements to data centers.

That sounds cool, but in reality, that computation power will probably be squandered on AI rendered images of 3 breasted women.

Just crossed my 4 years with a model Y, 0 repairs. Only thing I have done to the car in 4 years is add windshield washer fluid and a set of new tires. 3514 kWh used this year to drive 12,000 miles. So $351 dollars in electricity. I have used a supercharger 5 times in that 4 year period.

It's awesome when they come right to your house and rotate your tires. How many miles did you get out of the tires?

I got them at discount tires, so I just swing in there every 6 months to rotate them. Takes like 20 min with an appt. I guess I did have to get a new 12v battery, it took 10 min in my garage. Did it preemptively so it didn't die this winter. But the new models don't have lead acid 12v's like I have so they don't need to be swapped out every 4 years.

35k out of the OEM tires, I upgraded to better ones this time that should last 50k.

thinking my next vehicle is plug-in hybrid - then I can be equally hated by both the EV and ICE crowds!
I think plug-in hybrids have their place and make sense for some use cases. With that said, I think the majority of people would be better with a pure EV. It's kind of like buying a soundbar to replace your TV speakers. My wife made me put a soundbar on our TV upstairs, but for roughly the same price I put a 5.1 system on my basement TV. The soundbar sounds a lot better than the TV speakers, and it looks better than my dedicated speakers, but when you listen to both, it's easy to tell.

Been thinking recently that I will probably try to hold on to my current car for five more years and then make it the kids car as my oldest will be starting driving. At that point I will look heavily/only at EV and hopefully tides have turned back.
