CF Staff Picks: Arizona State at Iowa State

The staff has more faith in our leaky defense than I do. After giving up a crap load of points over the past three games including two against so so offenses…I’ll be over the moon if we keep them under 28 points,

Holy cow. This. I felt the same when reading those score predictions.

I know ASU is injured on offense, but so are we on defense.

Seven pickers and they together believe the avg score for ASU is 17 points.

If Iowa State holds ANYONE under 20 points at this point (even Oklahoma State) I would be ecstatic and shocked (in a good way.) Don't see it happening though, unless weather gets really nasty and plays a major factor in a lower score.

When is the last time ISU faced a one dimensional QB? A guy who doesn't even complete 50% of his passes and the average completion is around 3 yards? Yeah, that should help ISU's depleted defense.

Based on history, I really don’t understand the point of doing this.

I actually think our Defense looked halfway good against BYU until they folded (along with the rest of the team) during the 2-min drill to end the 1st half. It was all downhill after that soft A$$ coverage.

Sims is a backup who hasn't played all that much in his career or this season. He hasn't even thrown 50 pass attempts yet. He's also got 29 rushes for 102 yards.

He is not Lamar Jackson, but I wouldn't say that he is one dimensional with such a small sample size. We have, what? 4 guys out for the season in the secondary and we have zero pass rush. That certainly could help him boost those stats.

38, 24, and 34 (including a 30ish yard short field after the punt incident) is a crap ton?

I'll give Cinci and the D certainly hasn't been sharp but ISU's problems are a full throttle all three phases and fundamentals issue, not just the points given up.

Anyway I feel like this game is either ISU coming out and putting a full game together to have a chance late or the bottom falling out.

Leavitt being out is the only thing that gives me some optimism. The inner pessimist thinks their backup is about to pull a Chase Daniel

There's film on Sims since he played quite a bit last week.

Chase Daniel came in during the 3rd quarter after Brad Smith went down.

Two completely different situations and I don't know why that comparison keeps getting thrown out there.

Valid comparison only in that a backup comes in and looks like an all American against ISU.

Yes, 38 and 34 are a butt load of points…unless you’re playing arena ball.

Cinci put up 37 on KU, 49 on OSU, and 41 on Baylor. They can score.

As for BYU, I certainly wouldn't be hanging 34 points on the defense when those 34 points included a short field after the punt debacle that resulted in a TD and a pick 6. Not to mention another 3 in the first half after Rocco's first interception. I'd only put 27 on the defense, which would be below BYU's average I believe.

I refuse to be pessimistic. I think the guys rally around Rocco. Rocco and the offense play their best game of the season. ASU gets down early and their backup QB makes mistakes trying to do too much. Time to turn things around.

This would be great and I think it's either something like this or the ship keeps taking on water, not much in between.
