***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

They're paying fractions of those. Someone will take a flyer on the coaches. The buyout numbers don't mean anything when there's offset language that requires they attempt to get new jobs and the new job has to pay market rate that offsets the previous school's obligation to pay.
Brian Kelly might not go back into coaching...and if he does it won't be at the same rate as he was making so LSU will certainly be paying a lot of that! Maybe all of that if Kelly is burned out?

State of Iowa isn’t.

Then I'm guessing LSU's lawyers will be working that angle. If he wants to retire I'm sure they'll be cool with that...and they'll then say "this provision of your signed contract requires you to pursue employment commensurate with your experience. We will cut you a check for $10m to consider the contract fulfilled. Please discuss with your representatives."

Ranking Sec jobs imo if you combine NIL, tradition, and ability to recruit within 200-250 miles from campus.
1.Florida
2.Texas
3.Georgia
4. LSU
5. A&M
6. Alabama
7. Tennessee
8. Auburn
9. Oklahoma
10. Arkansas
11. Ole Miss
12. South Carolina
13. Mizzou
14. Kentucky
15. Vandy
16. Miss. St.
There could be a different coach next season for 7 of the top 11 on this list.

I wonder what qualified as an "attempt" to get a new job?

Interviewer: "So why do you want this job?"

Coach: "I'm just required to be here but don't really want the job."

LOL

He must pursue other jobs. Doesn’t mean they have to hire him.

This off season might be the most insane ever

Florida
LSU
UCLA
Okie State
Penn state

Probably Wisconsin
Maybe Colorado
Maybe Nebraska

Just gonna be a mess. I’m probably missing some
Other ones also

Ed Orgeron hasn’t had a coaching job (although his ex-wife got half his buyout). I’m assuming he had a mitigation clause.

How does one set "market rate" on a job and pay scale that's performed by...what, 20ish people in the entire country?

Is Campbell's salary "market rate", or is it Cignetti's? Riley's? Swinney?

Nah...it would be easy to apply for jobs and not get them...Franklin is young...I get that...but Kelly could easily apply for jobs and not get any of them (by his own choice)! And it sounds like none of this matters...the terms of the payout are/were being discussed all day...no way he doesn't know exactly what he is getting from LSU after the negotiations. They didn't spend all day discussing who was going to clean his office out.

And what's the market rate for a 65 year old coach that just got fired that is well known to be not all that likable?

At a certain point it also becomes one of those things a school could sue over if he takes something 'below market rate' but it becomes a PR nightmare if they try to as well.

I’m not convinced UW moves on from Fickell

He was the ADs first big hire

AD has been vocally supportive

QB injuries

Looked better Saturday

They don’t have $25 million laying around

No outsized donors

Va Tech
Arkansas
FSU most likely
Michigan State most likely
Kentucky most likely
NC State possibly

SEC alone will have at least 4 and if Beamer goes to VA Tech it would be 5.

I know this is an inherently subjective ranking but I don’t think Oklahoma can be that low. It’s basically just as easy of a drive for a recruit from the Dallas area to get to Norman as it is to go to Texas or A&M and there is a long history of top recruits in Texas heading up to Oklahoma to play.

I’m not saying OU should be at the same level as Texas or anything but I don’t think that can be considered a bottom half of the league job either given the long list of Heisman trophy winners and playoff appearances and everything else.

I guess if we’re going to have a down year, maybe this is as good a time as any so we (recruits) don't have to hear Campbell’s name being brought up in all of these searches.

I’m just grasping for silver linings at this point.

This was my thought also. Campbell after this year won’t be that desired after this season. Even though he is a good coach

There’s been a lot of talk about how the CFP will affect these coaching searches. If coaches make and advance in the playoffs, will AD’s be patient enough to wait to make a decision until those are done? Is a coach like Kiffin sleazy enough to be interviewing when his team is getting ready for the playoffs? Cause in this day and age there is zero chance that stays secret. It is t like Pollard is running these searches.
