*** BYU Pregame Thread ***

I wouldn’t say that. Rather, I think losing to a bad CU team made many people (again) question if ISU has truly taken a ‘contender’ step up with the program. Certainly there are more wins than past eras and yet there’s continual head scratchers that fundamentally solid, well-coached teams don’t make. Can’t blame every loss on refs and injuries.
Colorado maybe isn't that bad actually. Lost by 7 to undefeated Georgia Tech. Lost to Houston who is 6-1. Lost to undefeated BYU by 3. Beat ISU.

Hopefully Rhodes has been concentrating a lot of his practice time this last couple of weeks with the kickers so maybe his depth, placement and hangtime are improving. It would be nice to not have to use Smith there if both Konrardy and Smith are coming off injury and their status is tenuous.
Is he the big 4th string emergency kicking dude?

So our injury report now has 19 on it. Which is minus at least 2 more key players in our DBs that are no longer even listed. So that makes at least 21 of the top of my head. Thats close to 1/4 the entire roster. Meanwhile BYU has 6? What the actual F is going on with our injuries that last couple years.

I dont know what is going on, but it is starting to make me wonder. Every coach I have ever met has always said injuries are the direct result of the lack of strength and conditioning. This seems strange knowing what I know about the team and coaches, but it really makes me wonder why we continue to be so decimated by injuries.

I dont know what is going on or what the answer is but something seems to be needing changed. I really hope we can get this straightened out because without these injuries our team would look a lot different.

I’m not optimistic at all for Saturday. If Kyle is only doing FGs then kickoffs will be a problem again. BYU will have great field position all day long. I’m guessing orange won’t play. If he does then he will probably be limited, so d line will not do great either…

Agreed. Not feeling too confident. Not sure how we are favored to be honest.

It also depends on how you game the report. Don't be so naive.

As someone pointed out two weeks ago, they can just take a 5-yard penalty and force you to rekick. So that could backfire on you.
That was me.

Also, when the Big Fella kicked off, he got it to abt the 20 iirc. Well, that was the TD where the OL got a dumb taunting personal foul, so it was 15 yards back on the kick. That makes me think he can get it close to the goal line. Maybe w 2 more weeks of work he can get it further and get some touchbacks.

I for one welcome our new Thiccer Kicker

If he can improve in the next few weeks it would be great to not have that extra stress on the two kickers who have already suffered injuries.

I like this match up, and it has a "big game" feel heading into Saturday; huge conference race implications. BYU football has not been to Ames since 1974, which is also interesting.

So...BYU comes to town with a power running attack. Does the team stack the box and dare them to beat us through the air? If so, can our beat up secondary hold up? Or do we see a couple of 75 yard TD passes break our back? I've never known our DC to sell out one part of the game to beef up the other. If we don't stack to prevent the run will we be seeing 6-8 yard runs waaaay too often? Maybe a few that break for 15-20?

Heacock has often - especially in the first half of games - sat back and let teams rack up yards between the 20s and then as the field compresses clamp down (hopefully) keeping the opponent out of the endzone. While it isn't fun watching teams run for 5-8 yards a carry, I won't panic unless it results in 6 at the end of each drive.

I am not expecting to see anything different in that regard in this game. Sit back and keep things in front of you while waiting for the offense to make a mistake like a penalty, lost yardage play or turnover.

Heacock is the best ISU has ever had at making the other team one-dimensional (making him the best D coordinator ISU has ever had).

Getting to the Big 12 CG will always be my goal going forward. It's realistic. But that doesn't mean if don't go that it's a bad year.

Just because you say that doesn't make it true. Those coaches are idiots if that's what they truly said.

It's football. It doesn't matter how much S&C you do when a 330 pound OL rolls over your arm or knee.

Oh I get that, but also a lot of these guys have been out, its not like most of them all of the sudden end up playing. I get that it is a bit of a game in itself but its also not like we dont actually have these injuries. In most cases the game we have been doing is saying they are more likely playing then end up moving them down to out.

Fact of the matter is we have had a lot of significant injuries now for 2 seasons, report or not.
