Creighton exhibition discussion (see post 178 for Jake's link)

I have actually thought a 4 team, alternate city arrangement would be amazing. The four teams: Creighton, Nebraska, Drake and ISU. Alternate between Des Moines and Omaha, each out of state team alternates playing each other every other year. Heck, it would be fun just for a 2 year run.

I want nothing to do with Nebraska while Fred is still there.

The meltdown in a loss would be historic.

No sentimentality, this is also good financially. Heck, I'd say rotate on campus sites if The Knapp Center could handle it. All of the coaches are presumably on a friendly basis, this would be the time to strike. 2 games on Sat/Sun, I say all in one day, between 4 teams. These brainiac ADs should be able to handle these logistics at their pay grades.

Creighton had 9 new guys and Freeman out. Overall, it sure looked like Creighton had a higher skill level and was schematically better than us. They consistantly got open looks even though some of their open looks were not falling in the second half. But as Greg M. said in the post game, he was sure Iowa State was not going to show them much schematically given they play in a month. I was happy with how hard the guys kept at it in the second half. Hopefully skill wise we improve, mainly just hitting the bunnies and some free throws would make a big difference.

I moved on from Hoiberg the day he left. If his current team beats ISU than maybe we should have played better. People need to move on from the past. 1. Fred left for a bigger job so I don't fault him
2. TJ is a way better coach than Hoiberg.

It’s almost like we shouldn’t freak out about a game that doesn’t matter or a team coached by a guy who has never let us down.

Should has no relevance to this board. We have posters that just wait to rage against ISU. It’s amazing they are fans at all.

Hoiberg coached in Ames for the same reason he played for ISU, it was easier for him to be successful because of fan support and because he grew up in Ames. Once he achieved his coaching success at ISU, he got the job with the Bulls and did not do well (for many reasons). As most of us probably know, the Nebraska job is just him coaching in his hometown (I'm sure the Big 10 paycheck doesn't hurt either). As I remember, Tom Osbourne also briefly recruited him as a quarterback.

I agree that TJ is a better overall coach. He has adapted his playbook more successfully based on the strengths and weaknesses of his players. While Hoiberg is a great offensive coach, his lack of defensive focus probably cost us a lot of wins during his tenure.

How would the basketball program look if Hoiberg had never left? It's fun to speculate but we'll never know. In my opinion, we will have more wins and success with TJ after 20 years than if Fred had never left (I know this scenario is very hypothetical).

We played three true freshman in our top eight against a top 25 team. Our freshmen are going to be good players but it will take time. When we get Tamin back, he will bring composure and confidence. Other players will be better just because he is on the court. He also has a knack for knowing when he needs to take over a game that prevents teams from going on extended runs. He is a very important player for this team.

You are never going to get to experience the true joy of saying "See, I told you so!" taking this position.
