Beer sales at JTS after all?

Used to be when I bought a beer at a professional sporting events, I thought they priced the single beer at what a retail 6-pack cost. Lately it seems they are pricing it compared to a 12-pack.
I was at a wedding this past weekend with a cash bar that was charging $5/can for a can of Busch Light when I saw them carrying in a 24-pack that they probably bought for what $12-$15?

Yes, every other college stadium in America sells beer just to be altruistic.
We've got a fanbase that is notoriously cheap compared to other stadiums / fanbases, potentially limiting sales boost.

We've got a fanbase that loves tailgating and drinking and exiting for halftime and drinking (presumably would not longer be allowed). Would this impact ticket sales... almost ironically?

We've already got alcohol sales for those who really want it in areas they pay a premium for. What is the cost of potentially losing that sales pitch?

What is the cost of adding equipment, servers, plus cost of licensing and risk and monitoring?

What is the cost of some negative fan experiences on ticket sales and donations? AKA "Slobs"

What is the cost of competing against CyTown bar tenants?

Anecdotally, after attending games for 30 years in many different stadium sections I don't see a huge demand from those I talk to. Most people I know drink enough before the game (guilty), bring in their own shooters or something (guilty) and or don't want to spend the entire game in lines and in the bathroom (guilty).

I could be wrong, I'm sure Jamie has the math. If this was a slam dunk $ raiser... I suspect it would be done by now.

So do I and I have on more than one occasion had my beer freeze up on me making it difficult to drink.

I'm not part of that SEZ group, I'm just saying that access to alcohol isn't the only thing driving people to SEZ seats. Many (especially fans who are getting older) just don't want to sit out in the extreme heat or cold to watch a game. The SEZ gives them a way to still come to games and not have to brave the elements.
We are tough and hearty... we can handle it. If you beer is freezing, stop over to my tailgate and stand near my Mr Heater.

Beer sales better come before ridiculous athletic fees charged to students.

H
I 100% agree with you on this... but I fear it's inevitable that the student fees are coming. Most schools already have them.

Surely there are data out there on other programs that have added this and ostensibly had a large increase in revenue? What are the examples?

Literally all of them? If we're in the only twilight zone where you can lose my selling $15 beers to a captive audience then I guess we just need to accept it, but it seems super unlucky.

Increase in revenue is not the goal - increase in profits is.

I think they all have an increase in profits. It just isn't nearly as large as the increases in revenue due to the incremental costs.

It likely will happen and should when we are trying to turn every single stone. But this isn't some magic bullet that is going to make all of our dreams come true. It is one small drop in a large bucket of various revenue streams to get us closer to closing the gap.

While beer sales won’t generate much revenue for us, I do think it’ll happen sooner than later based on what I’m hearing.

It’ll be more because of fan experience than money making though. It’s just not a very big source of revenue for any school doing it currently.

I’m sure someone (Jamie) has the math. I just have a hard time seeing how this would move the needle that much on a NET $ impact.
It’s the main reason we’re not doing it currently. Nebraska is making a whopping $125k a game from it.

We’re estimated to make $400-$500k per football season in profit.
