On Tuesday's Daily Clone with Jake Brend, T.J. Otzelberger explains how Nate Heise has stepped up in fall practices as a leader, Heise talks about his confidence from three heading into 2025-26. Then Otzelberger says what makes Blake Buchanan a good in Ames and talks about how Friday's exhibition will be good for the team.

Apparently this was Nate in the summer before TJ talked to him.

Jake, I hadn't been listening to your daily clone, much, if at all, not because you aren't good, you are, but for perceived length. I thought these were 40-50' episodes and they most certainly are not. I like the 5-10' quick hitters, if that is what you are doing. Just the right amount of time to get some Cyclones during the day. Good job.

And to all the fans who are listening to Jake, here or on YT, click on YouTube and give Jake a 'Like'. That will help with their advertising, etc.

Appreciate the nice words! That’s exactly right, the goal is to give fans everything they need to know about the Clones in less than 10 minutes.

I feel like Heise might be the replacement for Curtis Jones, and if one of the freshmen or the transfer guard can step into the Gilbert role, we could be in for a great season.
I don’t think they will “replace” what CuJo and Keshon did last year. This is a different team and a different identity. I think Milan and JJ are going to be the guys they expect to take over when the game is on the line.

Heise isn’t going to be CuJo. He can’t score on the bounce and isn't going to be a volume shooter.

I also think this team is going to look more like earlier TJ squads and be stalwarts on D and keep opposing teams in the 60s.

Again, I probably worded it wrong, but I know he doesn't have Curtis's skillset. Just that he can be a key guy in that position, and it will probably help his scoring by being surrounded by great passers and guys who are going to eat up a lot of the opponent's attention.

Agree. I especially think our defense will be much better, because our bigs will be better on the perimeter.

My opinion on Heise.
He might start, but I doubt it. I think he will be the 6th man. He does everything well - shoot, cut, rebound and defend. Not an off the bounce guy. Not a great ball handler. I think his biggest value is his versatility. In the traditional sense, I think he can play the 2, 3, and even the 4 spot, if needed. He will be a very important piece of this team.

Sidebar - we got some killer non con games this year!

Hoping Purdue is undefeated and still #1 when ISU pays a visit...

I think/hope Gabe is a pretty good comp for Heise this season.

I'll be happy to simply listen to John and Eric. Creighton has enough money for basketball without my contribution.

It will be like the good old days when I was happy to even be able to get a radio broadcast of the game.

Jake, would it be possible to compile all the episodes from the week into a single weekly recap that gets released on Fridays? I tend to listen to podcasts when I'm driving or doing other things that take 30+ minutes so I tend to not catch all of the episodes throughout the week, but would always listen if I had the option to do it on my commute or when working around the house of Fridays. Not looking for much of any editing, just all together so I don't have click through the different episodes.
