Morning!

Randy Peterson has a fresh column for you tackling the picked up flag call and the impact of it. Plus, what does this mean for the Cyclones moving forward.

Why, according to many on here the pass was uncatchable, so why would the league have to comment? Maybe because it was pass interference?

How about not throwing it right at an opposing player 10 yards short?

How about Manske having a scripted series as part of a creative, innovative design to win games?

(a) Joke to pick up a flag, but nothing compares to the Lazard KSU flag.

(b) Terrible, terrible throw. wtf. Gotta be way better.
Am I totally misunderstanding the intent of Coach Campbell’s post-game comment that the throw happened after the DPI?

I thought many the idea was Rocco saw it happen and chose to just throw in the vicinity to get the call.

So, is it early in the NCAA football rulebook where is states that if a team is playing poorly or not up to their potential, you may disragard everything in thei manual hereafter?

For some of you, it seems that if we play poorly that we do not deserve a properly officiated game.

What level does a team have to achieve to be warranted a well called game? At what threshold is getting a terrible call on the 1 yard line (no matter how technical or picky) an actual terrible call and not something that was ACTUALLY produced by your lack of proper amount of good play?

Should you play through bad breaks or even completely blown calls, yes. Did ISU completely hand the game to Colorado multiple times? YES. Did ISU really deserve to win this game? NOT REALLY. Did that terrible call cost us 7 points. IMHO absolutely. Would that have changed the end result of the game? It definitely could have, but I'm not positive of that.

Was that a terrible pick up of a flag on a technically correct charged penalty. ABSOLUTLY YES.

Quit making excuses for the officials. That was terrible and affected the remainder of the game.

That one needs to be explained. EOS.

OR how about this for you excusers out there?

What if a play unfolds on our D. One of our DBs thinks the Safety is picking up their man on an exchage on the right side of the field, but we mess it up and "their" man streaks toward the end zone completely unabated and the QB finds him late in the play for a TD. BUT, the problem is their was one lone OLineman on the far left side of the line that had pushed his man 8 yards downfield prior to the pass.

"Technically" that would have been a penalty, BUT ISU had completely messed up the play. They looked like dummies and therefore, we shall pick up the flag and award the Offense the TD anyway. That silly technical rule cannot abide when a team does such a poor job of playing their roles. They should not benefit from the technical interpretation of the rules. I hereby grant a pardon of the infraction on the grounds of "Cyclones bad play".

Sounds stupid? Yes. So do the people arguing that this call doesn't matter becuase we made a bad pass on the same play.

I guess I assumed he really meant the catch (interception) happened after the DPI to clarify that it wouldn't qualify as a tipped ball type of situation where there is no DPI after a ball is tipped (or in this case touched). But maybe I assume too much.

NFL teams never do this.

Out of all the games yesterday I’m pretty sure there was only 1 qb that started as the QB2 to get into a game (not counting end of game kneel downs, I don’t know that). And it wasn’t even the Jets, who had total net passing yards of -10. Just “getting a series in”in the flow of a regular game literally never happens.

Exactly! It has to be something. If the call is that the pass wasn't catchable, and therefore not PI, then it must be holding. As I recall, the defender grabbed our guy's shoulder pads and pulled him to the ground. Either way, this is a penalty.

That’s not really how it works. The rules are very clear about before and after the pass is thrown and what can be called. If it was deemed uncatchable, then PI does not exist and was the only thing that should have been called. Holding can only happen before the pass is in the air, and I don’t think that happened. At that point it was both jockeying for position, with Brahmer being the initiator.

I think PI should have been called, but it could not have been defensive holding.
