*** Official #22 IOWA STATE vs Colorado Game(Day) Thread ***

Quick reactions?
The defense did their job today. The offense put them in some bad spots and they responded.
The offense was offensive. Self inflicted wounds. Shot off 9 of 10 toes. Becht was blech. Offensive line was so inconsistent.
This team has lost all discipline. More penalties in the last two games than in the previous five.

Everyone was worried about the D due to injuries and yet they held up rather well. Why the offense has gone down the toilet is the harbinger of doom.
Becht wasn't great...but he had numerous dropped passes by his receivers today too. They had no business losing to this team unless those things happened...and they did.

Noel and Higgins covered up some warts.
They tended to catch everything

Though Noel had some big drops in prior years (not last year) so hoping new guys can move forward and develop.

First drive if ball is caught on the slant it's a TD.

When you have plays called that puts the ball into end zone and you fail you leave yourself more opportunities for things like BAD penalties

feels like this has been a problem since Iowa. Becht hasn’t been good enough the last two games—today especially—but when he makes great passes CATCH THE F******* BALL. think it killed two drives against Iowa, which is kind of when the “Iowa State hasn’t beaten anyone handily” narrative started

Nothing surprising on the offense really. Campbell continues to throw inexperienced kids into the OC and other offensive coaching positions. The defense has been bailing him out for years, but injuries have taken that away now.
I agree there were coaching errors, but it doesn't matter what the coaches call if the players don't execute.

The Rocco shows up to win these games is fading a bit as well. Hope we can finish strong.

I can’t believe there are people pretending to be serious pundits/journalists that were talking about Rocco being an nfl QB like 8 days ago lol. Pass that pipe!
After Purdy basically stagnated/regressed in his last 2 years at ISU, people here also said that Purdy would never be an NFL QB. Then Purdy went in found himself somebody who actually knew how to coach QBs...

The game hasn’t even been the worst part of my day. My wife is going back to school and has her final paper due tomorrow for a class. The file got corrupted and won’t open. She has to start completely over. She is on the phone with tech support but they can’t repair the file.

A redshirt freshman lineman kicking off for ISU is a pretty good encapsulation of where this team is at this point of the season. Crushed by injuries and completely unserious.

While there are plenty of examples you could legitimately use the "completely unserious" tag, our woes at kicker are not one of them. Few teams carry a backup kicker; nobody carries a 3rd string kicker. We're beyond that point and just using any warm body that can swing his leg forward and get the ball in the air.

As I said, feel free to do that for any other aspect of the game - but you don't get to do that for the backup to the backup to the backup kicker.

Rocco hasn't played a full game this year outside the South Dakota game. He made some key plays late in games like KSU and Iowa, but if he played well from the start there wouldn't have been a need as those games would have been in hand much earlier. Rocco hasn't been good enough against P4 teams this year, period.

I’ve never heard the idea that you can just tackle everyone away from the throw while the ball is in the air.
It doesn’t really matter what you e heard of, because that’s how pass interference works.

Was the ball in the air when the contact was made?

If the contact was before, it can be defensive holding. In that case it doesn’t matter if the ball was catchable.

Was the ball catchable by the player being interfered with had that contact not happened?

Both need to be a yes to be pass interference.
