Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

So you're saying Yormark is naive to Campbell's true motives like I supposedly am (according to you)?
First, it's the royal you. Stop taking everything so personally man.

What I'm saying is that Campbell is out for whatever puts Tech in the best situation, first and foremost. Right now, that's this plan that he put together. However, if the result is that Tech ends up in the P2 in order to keep the status quo, Cody isn't going to lose sleep at night over what happens to anyone outside of Lubbock.

Cody Campbell doesn't give a **** about Olympic sports.

You're naive if you think his goal is anything other than Tech's best interest.

LOL always moving the goalpost after another one of your silly hot takes.

I think his preference is the Big 12 staying part of the playoff. Not out of love for the conference, but because it’s advantageous to Tech.

It gives a Tech an easier path in, and with unlimited spending, they can buy a roster that competes with anyone.

Because of his limitless resources, they’re in a real cat bird seat unless the SEC/Big 10 go jerk each other off.

Isn’t he employed by the Big 10 and Fox? If so, all the more reason why Blum is exactly right. Thanks for sharing. Campbell must be on the right track if the Big 10 is worried about him to write this dribble.

He was also a national writer for 25 years before he started with FOX and a Louisville/Memphis guy before that.

I think he raises some fair points, especially in regards to NCAA championships and membership.

He does appear on BTN quite frequently and he is off his rocker regarding what he writes about amending the SBA. His BS there is Fox-driven propaganda.

That’s why they had him write it. He is just their shill.

I agree with you on NCAA championships and membership despite past NCAA eff ups regarding NIL.

Now Campbell's desire for a separate organization to administer CFB & BB media rights pooling/negotiations/allocations is legit. While that organization would be driven by combined SCORE/STAR Fed legislation (if approved), it doesn't require that organization to be a Fed gov't entity as some have proposed.

Sounds like Fox is worried about a unified TV deal. Should they be?

I worry that we end up with a whole bunch of separate organizations that don't work well together and contradict each other. If the TV money is being administered by a separate org from the CFP but both of those organizations still have to answer to conference commissioners and member schools that we get an even bigger mess than we have now. The NCAA has, to your point, really struggled to modernize and change but at least everyone is, more or less, on board with them.

I think we've also kind of talked past each other in that I don't hate the idea of pooling, assuming Campbell, or whoever, can deliver on this promise of giant increases and, frankly, he needs to show his work there rather than just the 'trust me, bro' vibe he's currently giving off on that front. I just don't see any way that the G6 give up the access they've got to the CFP and I don't think the conferences are going to cede way for a regional model regardless of what the number would look like. There may be a solution here but it's not the one as written. It's a great starting point for discussion.

Lastly, I know you completely disagree with me here and that's fine but the minute you open up the SBA as it's currently written, it BEGS the NFL and all of it's power and money and influence in to the discussion and nothing is going to hurt college football more than the NFL being able to play Friday and Saturday nights. There are a lot of really powerful, morally questionable people that sit in those 32 owner's chairs that aren't going to care whether or not college football gets more money when they realize they could be the ones making that money. Perhaps the best solution is a completely new law that starts from scratch in a 21st century world rather than trying to shoehorn yourself into a law written before the internet was even a thought.

Do you worry about what pooling money in the hands of a few players through Big 10 and SEC’s realignment based on greed will do to women’s sports?

All I know is that the WBB and VB Tournaments and the WCWS keep setting ratings records and have higher visibility than they've ever had before.

I do worry that sports like swimming, golf, tennis, gymnastics, T&F and cross country, regardless of gender, are going to cease to exist at the college level and that we'll lose the built in Olympic training programs that we've come to take for granted as a country in the Modern Games era and those programs will have to either privatize or move to a tax payer funded model. Unfortunately, I think that's the future regardless of what system we come up with in college sports. No one can ever feed football enough and that's where all the new revenue would end up if it happens just like it always has.

How is that moving the goalposts?

In fact, the last two posts you quoted say the exact same thing...
I haven't read everything, but the last few pages, It does seem like you do have something against CC and his motives. I don’t know how anyone can be certain about his motives, either way. You seem pretty absolute in your opinion, which usually means you're probably wrong to some degree.

I have an obv bias but outside of this specific instance most people would be lauded for questioning the motives of an amoral billionaire.

If TT was in the SEC he wouldn’t be doing any of this.

Do you think putting money in the hands of two entities is good for Iowa State?
