Jontez Williams out for the year

I’d vote for moving Abu Sama to CB. That’s what he was originally recruited for, but switched to RB after his big senior year in HS. Except for the snow game, he’s been a disappointment at RB.
Mentioned this earlier this week and was told what injury issues. Sure worth considering, I think the kid has the talent, hasn't clicked at RB at all.

He averaged 7.3 yds a carry as a freshman 4.7 as a sophomore and currently 4.2 as a junior. What are you guys smoking? Hansen is averaging 4.3 on the year. He's a good back and could still become a great back.

Resting starters for injury prevention late in a lopsided game is common practice by every football team at every level, not sure why it's such a controversial take and why people are being called idiots and attacked for having that opinion.
Watch any NFL game and you’ll see it. It’s extremely common, pretty much expected actually.

There’s a portion of our fans that take any fair criticism of staff decisions as a personal attack. I really don’t get it.

The injury to Jontez sucks, but I don’t understand all the endless posts about who should or shouldn’t have been playing at the end of the game. What is the purpose? Do people want CMC to quit, fire a coach, issue a public apology? What is the end game? I’m sure Matt feels worse than any of us about the injury. It was a freak thing. It wasn’t like they were playing Jontez in a manner that intentionally put him in harms way. They were just try to play out the game. Unfortunately, he was rolled up on by a teammate trying to make a tackle in space. It sucks but no one was trying to get Jontez hurt. We wish it didn’t happen, but why dwell on it.

Because Campbell is beyond reproach in some people's eyes.

I think most teams in our situation would still have most of their starters in. Arizona was still playing their starters.

Hasn’t clicked at all?! Did you watch the snow game at K-St? I agree he hasn’t been great this year but he still has that break away ability

He's broken away in other games outside of the KSU game and has had some crucial 1st downs etc.

People just like to cling onto something that's a reason for any lack of success and it's hardly ever 'the opponent stacked the box and left no room'.

Or the line got destroyed. From what I've seen they're not terrible at power blocking but very inconsistent with zone schemes. Abu consistently has people in the backfield on his runs.

Not really sure how you want people to react. Why wouldn’t people be upset about it the day it happened? No one saw it coming, and it happened with 3 minutes left in a game that was already decided.

Of course people are going to be irritated and vent frustration about it. It doesn’t mean anything more than that. Not every complaint means they want someone fired.

He struggled last year with his reads. I honestly thought he was improving this year, although vs AZ maybe took a step back. Could be their weird scheme? I'm no expert. I also think defenses key on the run more when he is in.

Even if Sama isn't as good as Hansen (and idk if I would put it that way - different strengths, Hansen is more versatile), we need him to take some carries to keep Hansen healthy.

People getting all worked up about him, I do not understand. Just because he isn't Breece Hall at RB2? Good grief. He's a very good back, he would start a lot of places.

There are a lot of things Campbell could do and get a pass in my eyes. This is definitely not one of them. Absolutely boneheaded move, still want a CMC statue when he’s done tho

It could be 65 degrees, partly cloudy with a light breeze, just perfect weather for tailgating with the Clones winning 70-0 and our fans would find something to whine about.

who do we have left at CB?
Just catching up on the thread, but…

Tre Bell is now the anchor.

Quentin Taylor is probably next in. He’s been getting regular PT.

Beni, of course. All the length and athleticism, but still adjusting.

David Coffey hopefully will be back soon. He has as much potential as anyone.

All three of these guys, I’d feel better about in ‘26–but it is what it is. And experience now will help.

Eddie Lemos impressed coaches in the spring with his hard work and hustle, but has been hurt.

Mason Ellens also has high end potential, but has also been hurt.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they slide a safety over to help.

I hear that a lot but he's got a guy in his face behind the line of scrimmage so frequently I can't really tell what his read should be half the time.

Ad hominem attacks don’t work on me.

I actually do agree that **** happens and not everything requires blame. This doesn’t fall into that category though, because many of us were calling for direct action to avoid this scenario prior to it happening.
I was going to wait until I read more of the thread, but…you realize you’re just beating the whole “armchair quarterback” trope to death, right?

Patting yourself on the back?

Here’s how that “20-20 hindsight” trope works.

If Jontez hadn’t gotten hurt, you’d simply have been wrong. And that applies to anyone else you thought should be out of the game.

You’re saying you know better than our highly paid, proven coaches, who have people running situational analytics programs all through the game.
