My friend @JP4CY told me that Toys R Us is coming back to DSM, and had a great idea for a thread:

Any childhood memories of going there, toys you wanted for Christmas/bday? Or if not Toys R Us, do you have another favorite childhood toy store experience?

I LOVED M.A.S.K. as a kid and had some of the toys. I thought they were amazing.

I didn't have a Toys R Us near me growing up but I had a KB Toys! Loved going in there to waste time while my parents were shopping

I think there was a KB in North Grand Mall in the 90s, as well as in the Fort Dodge mall! I was trying to remember the name and couldn’t.

I still remember where the KB was located in Crossroads Mall in Waterloo. Could probably walk there with my eyes closed. I think by the time Waterloo finally got a Toys R Us, I had aged out of that genre

Not as a kid, but I remember as a father, my wife dragging me there. We would do the majority of our kids Christmas shopping on a designated night. ToysRUs was one of the required stops according to my wife, so I spent most of the time arguing that it's too expensive and they will play with it twice before it eventually gets donated.

And folks....this is how Festivus got started.

While utilizing one of those end-cap displays full of big inflated balls in nets, my unsupervised friends and I had an impromptu kickball game inside a Toys R Us once. We had bases around the store and everything. It was a blast until we were asked to kindly leave by a red-faced manager.

I think there was a KB Toys in Valley West Mall when I was growing up. I just remember going to Toys R Us and seeing all kinds of cool stuff that I know I'd probably never get, lol. It was like taking a kid to a candy shop but telling them we're only there to buy a pack of gum.

Not a toy store but we'd just hit the toy section at CR's Target store. This was late 70s-early 80s, before Target got Midwest bougie, it was closer to a KMart in status at that time. We couldn't afford the really cool toys and stuff, but it was fun playing with them while there.
