Cracks in the B1G?

Round robin schedule in the previous Big 12 definitely made for a tough conference slate. Gotta feel good to not have that anymore.

In your time window of 2012-2023 you didn't include Wisconsin, and those were some of their best seasons. From 2013-2019 Wisco won 9, 11, 10, 11, 13, 8, and 10 games, had two top-10 finishes, four top-15 finishes. Iowa played them every year.

Wins wise yes but they won 0 B1G titles and with exception to maybe one or two games didn't beat any real good teams that whole stretch, and would tend to drop a game to marginal teams like NW or Illinois.

They were like a step above Iowa.

Also their last Rose Bowl win was 2000 (99 season) which is kind of wild.

I think the point is, ISU schedule was tougher than Iowas for years, and very few Iowa fans acknowledge that, when comparing the two. Now its flipped and Iowa fans are trashing Iowa State for their SOS, even though in reality it still is similar to Iowas.

What many still fail to acknowledge is Iowas SOS is still not that high and Iowa States is basically even with them, and their schedules have basically balanced out, at least according to ESPN.

I know ESPN is not perfect for any of this, but its the readily available one and I dont feel like looking deeper.

They rate:
Iowas overall SOS at 80
ISUs Overall SOS at 82

Iowas SOR is 89
ISUs SOR is 11

Iowas Remaining SOS is 9
ISUs Remaining SOS is 48

Now looking at the schedules I think the numbers are low for Iowa overall, but I have a feeling their 2 noncons against teams that barely have a pulse are bringing them down, and am not sure their protected games are helping much.

But my point still stands that Iowas schedule is similar to what ISU had for years, and ISUs is more in line with what Iowa had.
Yeah moving ahead Iowa's schedule is definitely going to be much tougher and ISU's much softer for sure.

Oh I believe it will too, finally, just like for years ISUs was much tougher than Iowas, in most cases. It is nice to come down to Iowas level for a while

I also didn’t include the other good Big 12 teams in the same timeframe. It wasn’t just Texas and OU and a bunch of deadbeats.

We were a made for TV conference. The SWC schools had just ended decades of history to play in Iowa and Kansas so they could make more in TV.

Not surprising Big 12 schools never stopped looking for a better offer, a better solution to staying at the top of TV
The conference equivalent to a Jerome Tang basketball roster.

It's gone back and forth. From the late 90s until 2010 when you guys were in the Big 12 North, Iowa had the much tougher conference schedule. Caught 2 of tOSU/PSU/Mich nearly every year and all three of them several of those years.

In the past 27 years, Kirk Ferentz has played an average of 3.1 ranked teams per year. In the past 10 years, Matt Campbell has played an average of 4.3 ranked teams per year. Campbell has a higher win percentage against ranked teams than Ferentz.

Not really. For example in 1997, Iowa State played four ranked teams while in the Big 12 north and Iowa played three ranked teams. In 1998, Iowa State played four ranked teams in the conference and Iowa played four. In 2000, each team played two ranked conference opponents. I looked at the 2001 season, Iowa State played three ranked teams and Iowa only had two. And those were the only four years I looked at when Iowa State moved to the Big 12 North. None of those times did Iowa play more ranked teams. Twice Iowa State faced more ranked teams than Iowa.

That is nothing more than a B10 myth, that year after year the B12 north was horrible, but when you look at when the Texas teams came in, OU and UT were both struggling, but Nebraska, KSU and Missouri were strong teams. The North division was bad for about two years, but overall it was not.

Nothing will convince @Gonzo. Why keep trying?

C'mon, the Big 12 North was really bad.

Look at the numbers, it's not the truth.
Ok well if the Big 12 North didn't suck, then neither did the B1G West. I looked at some numbers...

From 2000 to 2010, the Big 12 North finished with 3 ranked teams once. It finished with 2 ranked teams four times. It finished with 1 ranked team four times. And it finished with 0 ranked teams two times.

From 2014 to 2023, the B1G West finished with 3 ranked teams two times. It finished with 2 ranked teams three times. It finished with 1 ranked team four times. And it finished with 0 ranked teams one time.

And pick a 10 year period starting with 1997 for the Big 12 north. What is it then?
