Cracks in the B1G?

Couple reasons starting from the fact that Michigan has more money then just about anyone else so they don’t need it and more importantly Michigan wouldn’t want to do anything that helps OSU which this would.
I actually think Michigan is likely one of the relative good guys in all this. Or at least they have some semblance of a moral code, certainly compared to OSU and others.

I think if Notre Dame led some kind of altruistic "let's make this make sense for the good of all" crusade, they might - just might - get a couple of the big brands to come along (Michigan, maybe USC?). Along with ALL the middle and smaller schools, that could be enough to make something positive happen.

Michigan is one of the big dogs in athletics that doesn't let the athletics tail wag it. Notre Dame is probably in that camp too. USC possibly too.

There are other power conference universities like Cal, UCLA, Duke, and Vandy that are academics-dominated, but they don't matter in football, so they don't do much in bringing sanity back.

There might also be some of these decent athletics brand schools that really want to be seen as elite academically that might help bring sanity to the sport, like Wisconsin, UVa, UNC.

Yeah I've heard Arizona football fans and attendance are pretty rabid. Lol.
lol wow you really got me there. Almost like I didn’t just name two Big ten schools who can’t fill football or basketball bc their fans would rather do anything else!

Because it happens all the time in other states but it would be the worst possible thing that could ever happen in Iowa for some reason...
So Michigan needs the extra money then… better tell Friendly Spartan.

Every conference has some stinkers when it comes to fanbases, attendance, etc. Arizona is 3-0 and can barely draw 40k to their home games. Does that scream "passionate fanbase" to you?

Two things can be true.

The Big 10 has some of the biggest, most passionate fanbases and rivalries in the country.

They've also generally expanded with schools that really don't care about college sports and were added because they could make the other schools more TV money given the landscape of the time.

They were bad last year. The passion for their basketball indicates fans would come if football improved.

Just sayin

100% correct. Just as in every league, everybody brings something.

Nothing happens in a vacuum...

Your argument falls pretty flat on its face when you consider they were 2-0 coming off of a bad year last year and were playing a 1-2 team.

Mostly agree with this.

Nebraska, Oregon, Washington absolutely have passionate football fanbases.

When they're good, I'd add USC to the above group, when they're down, I wouldn't.

Maryland I would say has a pretty passionate basketball fanbase.

UCLA and Rutgers, not so much across the board.
